Sparkes On Fire At Dubbo
The first of the maiden 400 metre events was won in impressive style by the Sparkes trained Miss Maxwell ($3.50) who skipped over the journey in a slick 23.08s. Minor placegetters were Bailee’s Bull and Zini’S Gump.
Some nice bets were landed in the opening two events with punters on top after the Peter Dutto trained Exquisette Mimi ($2.50) took out the first race in 18.60s.
Sparkes completed her winning double in race three, the 400m maiden when Gonzo The Great ($3) scored a last stride win over early leader Lamington with Zinis Jet in third place. Time was 23.31s.
Both winners from the Sparkes kennel are from the Most Awesome-Miss Hackett litter.
That same litter was to the fore in race four when Awesome Joey ($2) led all the way in the main sprint of the afternoon scoring in a brisk 18.40s. Lethal Grin got home well for second with Camomile Boy an eye catcher for third.
Alan Cleary’s Nana Fulmer ($2) showed plenty of steel in taking out the mixed grade 516m event of the day. Sent out a warm favourite Nana Fulmer was squeezed out in the early stages but got clear over the middle section to come away to score a handy win in 30.66s.
Iddy Biddy Moo ($3) made the step up to the 400m distance look easy when leading all the way to win the WW Apple Jax at Stud Stakes in 23.41s.
Despite the awkward draw, the “Moo” displayed a good early dash to lead clearly and defy all attempts to run her down. The eye catching run was that of Assassin Journey who got buffeted out early but did her best work late to nab second while Laurie’s Card finished third.
