Susan’s Big Night Out At Launceston Greyhounds
Brighton trainer Susan Gittus had a night out at the Tote Racing Centre in Launceston on Monday night, winning four races on the ten event card.
“I've previously won four races on a programme at Tattersalls Park in Hobart and the Devonport Raceway, but it was a first for me in Launceston,” she explained this week.
“It was great, I didn't have a bet on any of my runners, however it was an exciting night's racing for sure.”
Grand stayer Ming Dynasty (Chinatown Lad – Brandon Sky) set the kennel ball rolling by prevailing in the Rapidvite Blood Booster Free For All (720 metres), as a heavily supported $1.50 favourite.
The Paul Felgate owned bitch has now won her last two starts in brilliant fashion and will now contest thetote.com.au Winter Championship Series and then the National Distance Championship Heats.
Felgate also owns the bitch Breaking Angel ( Overflow Breaker – Optimum Angel), which took out the Haymes Paints Grade 5 event ( 515 metres) to give Gittus her second winner for the night.
“Breaking Angel has had a few issues and then slipped in the boxes at a recent Devonport Raceway meeting, which meant that I had to trial her before the Stewards – however all is well that end's well,” she explained.
When the Tony Tufo owned Gun Breaker ( Surf Lorian – Shelburn) recorded his 18th career victory in the Macro Meats Invitation (515 metres) at odds of $22.50, things were really starting to hot up for the Gittus kennel.
“I know it was a strong field, but the only thing that surprised me was the odds on offer, because he is as honest as the day is long and a hard chaser,” the trainer explained.
“From where he was drawn I fathomed that he would get a nice run through and with that in mind I rated him a good chance of winning.”
The Jay Harradine owned Brutal Dreams ( Paddy's Flame – Drunken Dreams) then capped a great night for the young trainer by winning the final event on the programme, the Launceston Veterinary Hospital Grade 5 event (515 metres).
It was the bitches first win since entering the Gittus kennel in March and probably indicative of another score in the not too distant future.
Meawhile another female trainer to score multiple victories at the LGRC meeting was the Invermay based Eileen Thomas.
The former trainer of star chaser Damek was successful with firstly How Many Times ( Surf Lorian – Crystal Siyan) and then Looting Enforcer ( Black Enforcer – Blue's Loot).
Ultra consistent bitch How Many Times established a new track standard in winning the Country Club of Tasmania Invitation ( 278 metres) in the time of 15.96.
This eclipsed the previous record of 15.97 held jointly by Icy Popsicle and Puddle Fish, which was runner-up on Monday night.
“How Many Times was previously trained by Tony Hoyland, but when he returned to Queensland she was transferred to my kennel,” Thomas explained.
“She has been slow to begin on occasions, but really surprised me on Monday night by flying the lids and winning impressively.”
Looting Enforcer took out the Goodyear Autocare Grade 5 event (515 metres) to open her Tasmanian winning account at odds of $7.40.
