Tomac Bale’s Listed Melbourne Cup Night Sprint Victory

Tomac Bale used every inch of advantage to take out the $15,000 to the winner Night Sprint from box two.

The race, which is a new addition; is considered a consolation race for the 1 Melbourne Cup and pulled together a very handy field of chasers, among them Gold Town and Xylia Allen who were both huge runs in last weeks Melbourne Cup heats.

The box draw and the track bias on the night were always gong to suit the inside drawn greyhounds and despite extensive interference caused by Mepunga Armagh in to the first corner, Tomac Bale was able to rail through to a commanding lead while Speed Series and Gold Town were significantly inconvenienced.

From that point it was every post a winner for Tomac Bale who finished too strongly for Farmor Las Vegas to reel in, and Gold Town produced his customary strong finish to find the line ahead of Speed Series.

It was a major result for followers Australian Racing Greyhound's Facebook page, who all shared in the standout tip for the first 4 that netted $516 for every $24 invested.

Tomac Bale's win took even his trainer by surprise with the mentor unsure of which major race would be next on the agenda, “Whens the on?” he asked.

With the The Hobart Thousand and the Ballarat Cup both due to start soon Delbridge seemed convinced Tomac Bale would be more suited over 500 metres, “Well if its on at the same time as the others we may have to look at Brisbane,…..he is racing more like a 500 dog now rather than a 457m type dog.”

Tomac Bale's listed Melbourne Cup Night Sprint win took his earnings to $174,905 from just 27 starts that have netted 14 wins, with his most notable success being in the 2013 Pad and finishing runner up in the 2013 behind Ernie Bung Arrow.
