Top Field To Contest Devonport Maiden Final

A select field of chasers will contest the Virbac Vetsearch Tasbred Maiden Final (452 metres) to be conducted at the NWGRC's meeting at the Raceway on Tuesday.

Five heats were conducted at yesterday's meeting, with the winners plus the three fastest second place-getters progressing to the rich finale.

Fastest heat winner was the impeccably bred She's All Class ( – It's A She), which recorded a sizzling 25.91 in blitzing her rivals by six lengths and paying a dividend of $1.60.

The bitch is raced by Devonport's Leigh Alexander and prepared for him by master trainer David Crosswell, best known for his deeds with the former champions Highland Summer, True Vintage and Busy Vintage.

She's All Class was making her race-track debut, but was a huge street-corner tip after trialling brilliantly on several occasions.

The bitch has drawn the check box in next week's event and according to Crosswell is well suited from an inside draw.

“She has broken 8 seconds for her first split every time that I have trialled her and won from the white box yesterday, so I think that she will be a major contender again,” he revealed.

“At this stage of her career she is as good as any greyhound that I have handled, so I believe she has a very bright future.”

Second fastest qualifier was the Lynden Nichols prepared Amazing Milne (Give Me Five – Bluey Milne), which recorded 26.07 in winning his heat from the red box.

Also debuting, he smashed his rivals by five lengths while paying a tidy dividend of $4.40 and according to his trainer will benefit from the experience.

“He is still learning and had showed me plenty when trialling, but was inclined to be tardy from the boxes,” he explained.

“He has improved in that regard in recent weeks and will be suited from the black box, but in saying that David Crosswell's bitch will take a power of beating.”

The Birralee based Nichols has been enjoying a great run of success in recent weeks and also hopes to have the handy chaser Amazing Albert (Give Me Five – Mountain Brook) cherry ripe for the upcoming Minister's Gift Heats.

“Amazing Albert has been hindered by corns, but I am working on them and hope to have him right by next week,” he said.

Another interesting Maiden Final heat winner was the Dale Hammersley prepared Rumbling Rick ( – Ricky's Angel), which recorded 26.09 in winning by nine lengths and paying $11.

Raced by non-other than , he is a half-relation to Devonport Raceway track specialist Rewind and had been impressive in several trials.
