Track Records Under Siege In Tassie

Track records have been under siege in Tasmania this week, further evidence that the current crop of greyhounds racing in the State are well above average.

On Monday night at the LGRC's meeting conducted at the Tote Racing Centre, speedy bitch Puddle Fish recorded a sizzling 15.97 in winning the Duke Of Wellington Invitation (278 metres) to equal Icy Popsicle's track standard established in April 2008.

Raced by Victorian owner David Curtain, Puddle Fish has now won six of her nine outings at the venue and is regarded as one of Tasmania's fastest beginners.

“Puddle Fish loves the Tote Racing Centre circuit and excels over the short distance, once she found the lead on Monday night I was confident the race was over,” trainer Gerald Mace explained this week.

Meanwhile Moorleah trainer Russell Watt's prediction that Pudzianowski would be suited in long distance events, was proven to be correct at the HGRC's meeting conducted at Park on Thursday night.

The son of blew his rivals away in winning Heat 1 of the Greg Fahey Mid Distance Championship (599 metres), leading from the outset to score by 10 lengths and in doing so establish a new track standard time of 34.21.

This time eclipsed Thirteen Black's time of 34.24, which was established in April 2010 and enhanced Pudzianowski's lifetime record to six wins from 12 outings and earnings of in excess of $8,000.

Classy bitch Sultan's Swing, an occupant of 's Mangalore kennel, continued on her winning way at the meeting by winning the Charmer Lodge Stud Invitation (461 metres) by seven lengths in the time of 26.08.

The daughter of has now won 29 of 55 lifetime starts for the Dire Straits Syndicate headed by leading bookmaker Barry Heawood, while accumulating a purse of almost $50,000.

Racing returned to the Raceway on Tuesday afternoon following repairs to the conductor rail and several of Tasmania's most promising chasers strutted their stuff in front of a better than normal crowd.

Mangalore trainer made the long trip with Bergermeister and Spiritual One to contest heats of the WHK Classic (452 metres) and they did not let their supporters down by both winning impressively.

Bergermeister, a son of , recorded 25.48 in winning his particular heat by seven lengths whilst Spiritual One, by Run's House, had four lengths to spare in a slightly slower 25.74.

Later in the programme veteran Bracknell trainer Maurie Strickland produced the outstanding Rewind, which took out The Advocate Invitation (452 metres) in the fastest time of the day 25.43.

A member of the highly successful Collide – Ricky's Angel litter, Rewind has now won 18 of 23 lifetime starts including his last five in succession and is shaping up as one of the best chasers seen in Tasmania in recent years.
