Trainer Says Queensland Visitor Can Win Hesa Felon at Stud Gold Cup

“Dashing Corsair can lead and they will have to do the catching,” was the comment from Queensland trainer when asked about the chances of his greyhound in Saturday's 2 Hesa Felon at Stud over the testing 720 metres at Wentworth Park.

will be favourite for the final after defeating Lennon's charge in the fastest heat last Saturday, however, Lennon expects Dashing Corsair to lead again in the final and will be mighty hard to run down. Lennon thinks his greyhound can lead from the three alley irrespective of what the others do, commenting on his greyhound's great turn of speed once he hits the ground out of the boxes.

“Forty Twenty got into a great spot behind Dashing Corsair last week and he will need a clear run like that in the final to beat my fellow.”

Lennon said Dashing Corsair is a genuine front runner and a fast track will definitely suit him in the final. He stressed that Dashing Corsair is getting stronger with experience after only three runs over the 720 at Wentworth Park and two outstanding trials over the 710 metres at .

“He's the reigning Champion and the way he's stepped up to the staying ranks has pleased me no end, especially when you consider we asked him to compete over the distance from the start against seasoned stayers in Group races,” Lennon added.

Local trainer has qualified two for the final and is delighted his best chance Chilli Jim has drawn the rails. He believes Chilli Jim is capable of causing an upset in the final.

“Chilli Jim has had only two box 1 draws in his life. He's desperate for the rails and is perfectly boxed in one in the final,” Burnett said

Burnett said Chilli Jim ran a super race in his heat where he suffered interference at a crucial stage but still managed to qualify with a strong third placing.

“Chilli Jim did very well to qualify coming off a short preparation after a wrist injury and I expect him to be greatly improved by the run,” Burnett said.

's heat win was its sixth consecutive win over the Wentworth Park 720 metres and owner trainer PeterWhye said his charge will be at his peak for the final.

“He was one run short of this best in the heat after coming back from injuries and three weeks rest, with only one trial at Richmond the week prior to the heats.”

“He's a very strong finisher and he's shown he can give them a start and a beating in the past but he will not be able to give these good dogs in Saturday's final too much start if we are to be successful,” Whye explained.

Forty Twenty's recent form entitles him to be favourite and were delighted when they drew the eight box at the on track box draw conducted after Saturday's heats. Trainer John Heard said this draw was perfect and he goes into the race full of confidence.

The winner of the final will earn $25,000 and there's also a presentation rug, trophy and a free service to Hesa Felon as part of the spoils.

Gates open at 5.30 pm next Saturday with the first race at 7.18 pm. Entry is $5.50 adults and children under 18 are free.
