Tricky Micky and Seriously set benchmark for Golden Chase Final

The field is locked in for the Group 3 Golden Chase Final after four competitive semi-finals at Ipswich on Sunday, with all four winners clocking within two lengths of each other to set up a thrilling $100,000 decider.
Tricky Micky set the tone in the opener, pinging to the lead and clocking a slick 30.51—equal fastest of the day—to hold off the late-charging Stowaway. Seriously matched that time in semi two, railing through smartly late to edge out Blue Blend.
Big Boy Bentley led all the way in semi three, holding off Simulate despite pulling up sore post-race, while Say When Glen completed a huge day for the Robinson kennel with a tough win in 30.65 after overcoming mid-race trouble. Power Of Whiskey chased gamely into second to also qualify.
With four semi-winners all clocking within two lengths of each other, and multiple Group-level performers in the mix, Saturday night’s Golden Chase Final promises to be a fitting farewell for the Ipswich Showgrounds.

Ipswich The Golden Chase semi final reviews
The Golden Chase Semi Final 1: Tricky Micky (30.51)
Tricky Micky made a statement in the opening semi final of the 2025 Golden Chase at Ipswich, spearing to the front from box four and dominating proceedings with a slick all-the-way win in 30.51.
After beginning well, the Denise Robinson-trained chaser was able to cross and lead clearly through the first bend before accelerating mid-race to put a break on his rivals. Despite the late challenge from Stowaway, Tricky Micky never looked in danger, extending his lead to score by over four lengths in the equal-fastest time of the semis.
Stowaway ran a solid race in second, working home well from a midfield position, while Becky Dutton and Head West filled the minor placings in a bunched finish for third and fourth.
With his early speed and sharp turn of foot, Tricky Micky continues to build an impressive record at Ipswich.
The Golden Chase Semi Final 2: Tricky Micky (30.51)
Seriously bounced back to winning form in the second semi final of the Golden Chase, taking full advantage of early interference to land a strong 30.51 win at Ipswich on Sunday afternoon.
After being one of the first into stride, the Tom Tzouvelis-trained youngster settled behind Kyoto mid-race before railing underneath the early leader and accelerating away late. The black daughter of Koblenz and Sherbini proved too sharp in the run home, scoring by nearly four lengths over Blue Blend, with Kyoto clinging on for third.
It was a much-needed return to form for Seriously, who had missed the placings in a rough semi of the series the week prior. With her box manners back on point and strength through the turns, she’ll head to the final with strong claims — especially if drawn to avoid early trouble.
Blue Blend also ran on well after finding early trouble, while Kyoto showed good dash but faded late after setting a fast early tempo.
The Golden Chase Semi Final 3: Big Boy Bentley (30.81)
Big Boy Bentley booked his spot in Saturday’s Golden Chase Final with a powerful front-running display in the third semi, clocking 30.81 in a drama-filled affair at Ipswich.
The Raymond Burman-trained son of Tommy Shelby exploded from the inside, found the fence early, and was never headed. Opening up a commanding mid-race lead, he held off the late charge of Simulate to score by three-quarters of a length. The runner-up, trained by Tom Tzouvelis, had to work through some traffic but stormed home strongly to snatch second and a place in the final.
Affluent was left to rue early interference, losing momentum at a key stage and settling for third. Behind them, Five Birdies boxed on for fourth, while the rest of the field was never a factor after early trouble.
Big Boy Bentley’s victory was clouded slightly by post-race vet concerns, with the blue chaser handed a 21-day injury suspension — casting doubt on his participation in the final. Simulate, meanwhile, becomes the third runner for Tzouvelis in the Group 3 decider, joining kennelmates Seriously and Stowaway.
The Golden Chase Semi Final 4: Say When Glen (30.65)
Say When Glen added the exclamation mark to Team Robinson’s dream day at Ipswich, surging through the field to claim the final semi of the 2025 Golden Chase in 30.65.
After being shuffled back early, the son of Hooked On Scotch carved a perfect path between runners down the back straight before exploding clear around the home bend to defeat Power Of Whiskey by nearly five lengths. It marked back-to-back semi-final victories for Denise Robinson, following Tricky Micky’s win earlier in the program.
Power Of Whiskey ran a bold race after finding clear air mid-race, holding off Savannah Beach to book his place in the $100,000-to-the-winner final. The remainder of the field was scattered after early interference, with Marquee Player and Table Topper both losing momentum at crucial stages.
Say When Glen’s effort made it five wins from his last seven starts and confirmed his growing reputation as a rising star in Queensland sprint ranks. He joins his kennelmate Tricky Micky in what shapes as a mouth-watering finale to racing at Ipswich Showgrounds next Saturday night.
