Lance Whitnall scored his first win as a greyhound trainer on Monday.
The former Carlton Captain has been training greyhounds for about 12 months and has managed a number of minor placings but felt a sigh of relief following Wipe Off Five’s solid win at Geelong.
“It’s a big relief and a big experience”, said Whitnall, who works full-time as a Sales representative and spends a couple of hours each day training his dogs.
Lance credited the win to his “mentor” Maurice Fitzpatrick, who is the grandfather of wife Rhiannon.
Whitnall and father Graeme recently purchased Wipe Off Five and this was the greyhound’s first official race start following a placing in a qualifying trial at Cranbourne.
