Victorian blazes his way into Perth Cup as fastest qualifier

VICTORIAN powerhouse Blazin' Bomber is the fastest qualifier heading into the 2016 Group 1 Perth Cup (520m) after a dominant 29.85 heat performance at on Saturday night.

Starting from box three, the black dog was able to muster pace in the run towards the first turn, railing underneath the speedy Fantastic Roxy to go to the early lead. Down the back and the Darren Pattinson-trained dog had a clear lead, but it wasn't going to be an easy win with Moreira sitting right on his heels.

Swinging for home and Blazin' Bomber drifted off the track, with Moreira looming as an ominous danger as he took the inside run, but the leader still had plenty to offer, kicking on strongly to score by half a length on the line.

It was the third straight win back from a spell for Blazin' Bomber, all of which have been in best of day times, and the 15th overall victory at start 25.

Just behind Blazin' Bomber's qualifying time was Ramifications for leading local trainer . The son of Barcia Bale and Disco Girl pinged the lids from box four in the final heat, landing straight on the bunny and rolling straight to the early lead.

Once leading it was a case of times and margins, with Ramifications romping away to score by a widening eight and three quarter lengths in a 29.88. Grand campaigner ran a gallant race to finish second, with Victorian visitor Soda Man finishing third.

Eisenhower and shared favouritism in the fourth heat, with the duo having to settle for second and third respectively behind Ima Wagtail.

Starting from box eight, the black dog was afforded room to move in the early stages and was able to muster pace and cross the field around the first turn.

The son of and Aella ran his rivals ragged from that point onwards, drawing clear to record a two and three quarter length win in 29.97.

Victorian raider Shared Equity was the class runner in the third heat of the night, and the Angela Langton-trained bitch made it a one act affair from box two.

Jumping straight to the early lead, the regally-bred daughter of and West On Bluebird was never headed, trumping by a massive eight and one quarter lengths in a slick 30.02.

It was the 25th career win at start 57 for the black bitch, with next week's decider set to be the 11th group final of her career where she will be aiming to break through for her first win at the highest level.

Former Tasmanian Lorus Time proved he was up to the top level of racing when taking out the sixth heat of the night.

Stepping from box four, the son of and Wongawillilesley went straight to the front, but was pressured through the first bend by Weblec Belle, with favourite Above All right on the leader's heels from box one.

Despite the pressure, the -prepared greyhound was able to hold on, scoring a determined one and a half length win in 30.11.

Katsuro Sahara broke through for his first victory at the new Cannington track when taking out the seventh heat of the night.

After a clear beginning from box four, the son of Oaks Road and Uno Emi was able to slip into second spot off the pace behind early leader Science, trailing the frontrunner throughout the majority of the race before levelling up on the outside around the home turn and kicking clear to win by two and a half lengths in 30.26.

Gorham Bale ran on well to finish second ahead of Cobra Clutch, with Science tiring to finish fourth just behind the placings.

It wouldn't be a Perth Cup without a finalist from Paul Stuart's powerful kennel, with Tiggerlong Await giving the Nambeelup trainer a chance of claiming the $140,000 winner's cheque in 2016.

A son of Fabregas and Tiggerlong Petal, the black dog speared the lids from box seven and was able to fight off a tough challenge from Sable Islands on his inside to draw clear half way down the straight, crossing the line three quarters of a length clear in 30.23.

The remaining heat was taken out by a $30 shot, with Miracle scoring a shock win for trainer Brian Jacobson.

Despite drawing box five against a classy field including Group 1 winner Dalgetty, the son of Magic Sprite and Indigo Gem was able to barge his way into a prominent spot through the first turn.

Down the back and the black dog was sitting third, with Bearville Azza leading Dalgetty who moved up along the inside to throw down a challenge.

However, around the turn the leaders inconvenienced each other, allowing Miracle to rail through along the inside and take the lead, crossing the line in front, defeating a fast finishing Marley Bale by a neck in a moderate 30.60.

Dalgetty stuck on after interference to finish third, with Bearville Azza dropping back through the field, finishing sixth.

The box draw for the Group 1 Perth Cup will be conducted on Sunday night, with the $140,000 to the winner final set to be held on Saturday April 23, 2016.
