Victorian Greyhound Racing Pledges $100,000 To Bushfire Appeal

Greyhound (GRV) with the assistance of its 14 race clubs have committed to providing a minimum $100,000 to the Red Cross Appeal for bushfire victims.

To compliment this, (GA) is accepting donations from various interstate greyhound clubs and bodies that have already started coming in for the appeal.

The Chairman of GRV and GA, said… “I am heartened by the response from greyhound Clubs throughout the State in committing an initial $100,000 to the Victorian bushfire appeal. In addition, greyhound clubs in other states and throughout the world are also raising funds and sending messages of support to bushfire victims.”

A large percentage of Victoria's greyhound participants are located in rural areas and many have been directly affected by what has been described as the worst natural disaster in Australia's history.

“Some of our participants have been affected by the and we will be assisting them through our internal processes. We as an industry also want to extend our sympathy and show we care for others who have been caught up in this terrible disaster”, Mrs. Wilson said.

Those internal processes include GRV's Helping Hand Trust Fund, which is available to greyhound participants who require financial assistance as a result of the bushfire crisis.
