WA Stewards Out Trainer For Nine Months

inquired into a report from the Chemistry Centre in Perth that the post race urine sample taken from the Greyhound after it had won Race 10 at on Thursday, 14 August 2008 contained the prohibited substance .

This finding has been confirmed by the Australian Racing Forensic Laboratory in Sydney.

Evidence was taken from Trainer Mr , Manager of the Chemistry Centre Mr C. Russo, RWWA Veterinarian Dr J. Medd and RWWA Investigator Mr G. Johnson.

Trainer Mr D. Groves pleaded guilty to a charge under Rule of Racing 83(2) for nominating and presenting LITTLE GEISHA to compete in Race 10 the Burwood Stake (405m) at Mandurah on Thursday, 14 August 2008, not free of the drug caffeine.

Mr D. Groves was disqualified, effective immediately, for a period of nine (9) months.

Further Mr Groves pleaded guilty to a charge under local Rule of Racing 85(2) for having in his possession a drug without a prescription. Mr Groves was fined the sum of $100.

Acting under the provisions of Rule of Racing 83(4) LITTE GEISHA was disqualified as the winner of Race 10 the Burwood Stake (405m) at Mandurah on Thursday, 14 August 2008 and the placings amended to read:
1st FORTRESS BOMBER (L. Isaac)
2nd ANNMALA MEFIX (P. Worthington)
3rd HOT WIRE JIMMY (D. Beckett)
4th JODI McLAREN (J. Fleming)
