Talented former Western Australian chaser We The People caused somewhat of an upset in the Gold Cup final over the 710m at Albion Park last Thursday, claiming victory from box two for trainer Selena Zammit.

The daughter of Peter Rocket and Steffi's Lara was only moderate to begin and positioned herself in fifth heading around the home turn the first time.

Race favourite took the lead in the back straight, with We The People following her along the fence, reducing the leading margin to a length approaching the home turn.

The two were stride for stride down the straight and a desperate lunge for the line saw We The People victorious by half a length at the finish in 42.43.

It was her 23rd career win from start 82, with no doubt some very excited owners cheering from WA, including renowned commentator Ryan Levitzke.

Knicks Bale lost no admirers with a gallant performance to finish second for trainer Samantha Grenfell, with Jamie Hosking's Micks just 1.75 lengths away in third.
