What you may have missed: Next stakeholder forum on this Tuesday

GREYHOUND Racing New South Wales () will conduct their next stakeholder forum at the Gosford greyhound track on Tuesday night.

Commencing at 6.05pm, GRNSW CEO Paul Newson is giving participants an opportunity to address their concerns and thoughts regarding animal welfare and integrity and discuss the future of greyhound racing in New South Wales.

There are still plenty of dates left for trainers, owners and enthusiasts to catch up on all the latest information, with Dapto, Lismore, Wauchope, Wagga, Goulburn and Gunnadah all yet to host their stakeholder forums.

Return To Racing Policy Established

GRNSW issued a return to racing policy this week, detailing the terms and conditions by which greyhounds which have been suspended due to live baiting can recommence racing.

GRNSW head veterinarian John Newell, along with animal behaviourist Dr Robert Holmes, assisted with the development of the policy, with the steps for clearance being:

  • The owner of the greyhound must complete a statutory declaration form, detailing all of the greyhounds details along with breeding, rearing and training arrangements
  • A kennel inspection will be completed by a GRNSW compliance officer
  • GRNSW veterinarian will complete a pre-trial examination on the greyhound
  • Greyhound will participate in a steward's trial with monitoring from veterinarian and stewards
  • If the greyhound is cleared, any transfers in ownership or trainer arrangements must be approved by GRNSW
  • If a greyhound is not deemed as suitable for racing, owner's will have the option of placing the greyhound in the Greyhound Adoption Program (GAP) or must seek approval from GRNSW before the greyhound can be euthanised
