Golden Easter Egg runner-by-runner greyhound tips & preview, 12/4
Saturday night sees the running of the $300,000 Group 1 Ladbrokes Golden Easter Egg at Wentworth Park. The most prestigious race in the country and the race everyone wanted to win until the flurry of million-dollar races emerged. It has been won by some of the greatest greyhounds Australia has ever seen and one of the following dogs will also go on to write their name into canine immortality.

Can Good Odds Cobber win the Golden Easter Egg?

Good Odds Cobber gets the dream box for the Egg final, but you have to be good enough to use it. He has had 11 starts from box one for nine wins and two seconds and has won 12 from 20 on this track. His first section of 5.46 in the semi would see him half a length back in second place heading into the first turn and you can see him railing through to lead soon after. He is an out-and-out champion who deserves to add the Group 1 Easter Egg to his long list of victories and will be extremely difficult to beat with a good start.

Trained by Karen Pitt when in Melbourne this girl has done everything asked of her in her last two starts to continue to advance in the series. She chased Taormina in the semi taking good ground off her late. But would need to improve and run around 29.4sec if she is going to worry this field. She may get a beautiful trail behind the red and if she is at ridiculous odds with the online bookmakers might be worth an each-way ticket. A win would surprise, however.

Gets Late Early was wonderful in her heat and is a truly top-notch greyhound, she isn’t a fast beginner however and that poses a massive problem in this race. She will head to the fence and if she can find it early behind Good Odds Cobber, she can certainly run herself onto the podium. She can’t be giving the fast dogs too much start however as her personal best is likely the winning time. She deserves her spot in the final, but will need luck to feature, but the Finn kennel always has their chargers spot on for final night.

Jungle Johnny is the current phenomenon having his colours lowered for only the second time in his last 13 starts. He was second in the Magic Maiden this time last year, second again in the National Derby in January, coming from last early, and won the 600m Dubbo Classic three starts back. He is not well drawn in box four with an abundance of pace outside of him and not being a fast beginner himself, he will need some luck to get across to the fence and chase the early leader again. However, if he gets clean air, he is certainly one of the strongest dogs in the race and one of the main players.

Lakeview Emily has been nothing short of sensational in recent times. She won the Group 2 Shepparton Cup before heading up here and won her heat like a good thing. She had the fastest early sectionals of any dog in the semis and ran an impressive 29.44 only to be run down by Power and Glory in the semi. She will likely begin well again and head towards the front, and her whole race will hinge on whether she can get across Good Odds Cobber at the first turn. Box five is a good box for quick beginners and if she leads, she can definitely win.

Power And Glory showed his true ability in the semi-finals. Is tonight his night? There are not many greyhounds that can do what he did in the semi, that is sit behind a blistering early pace and then go straight past the flying leader and still run a sensational time. He is horribly drawn in box six, with pace all around him and if he had have drawn box two or three, he would probably start favourite. He will need luck early but if he can follow Lakeview Emily across again early, he might get a good spot at the first turn which would make him an immense danger.

Taormina gets it done early and her semi was impressive she pinged the lids and raced away with the race and ran a handy 29.44 to boot. She won’t get things all her own way here however, she will have to get across both Lakeview Emily and Goods Odds Cobber and then hold off Kisses For Gran on her outside, if she wants to lead and that may be asking too much of her at this stage of her career. If she doesn’t lead, she doesn’t win and box seven is problematic for that.

Kisses For Gran has been flying of late and when she nails the start, she is very tough to beat. She showed her versatility coming from near last early to qualify for the final and while box eight is a tough box in a race full of superstars if she can begin well and Taormina heads towards the fence early, she might have the whole middle section of the track to herself to use her tremendous speed. She is one win and four placings from five starts from the pink box and she will need to cross the entire field to lead if she is to win, which is a big ask.
