Wentworth Park National Futurity Heats Preview
National Futurity Heat 1 Best Bet – Taormina (Race 3)
Sooty Keeping showed just how good she is running the fastest time of the night in the Group 2 consolation at Gosford last start; she is unbeaten from box one and will need to muster quickly from the boxes but is all class. Taormina was flying early in her first run here before getting tired; she will be infinitely improved by that run and may be the one to beat. Glorified has great pace but needs the fence; if she begins well enough to carve across the field, she will stack them up and steal a big break. Zipping Mayer and Miss Edie Jet haven’t got the pace to lead but have an incredibly strong finish. If there is trouble and they get an ounce of luck, they both can figure in the finish. Rema Blue enjoys being out wide and so the draw suits but is up in class, while Gambella is a star Victorian who can do anything on her night yet faces a tough ask first up at Wenty.

National Futurity Heat 2 Best Bet – Marrakesh (Race 4)
Invitations Only used box one perfectly and had to hold on for grim death last start off this box. If she can begin a fraction better, she will hold the rails again and is a real chance. Zipping Serrano is better than her last few but tends to give away a head start and will need luck finding a rails run. Prim and Precise ran fourth in the QLD futurity last start and so has plenty of class. She can run fantastic times when out in front and without much early pace in this race is the one to watch. Marrakesh from the strong Anthony Azzopardi Victorian kennel trialled 29.78 here a month ago and will get room to move early with a vacant box five. She is a genuine threat to lead all the way here. My Monroe will need luck from box six but does possess early pace and if she nails the start, she could lead at big odds with the top online bookmakers. Rema’s Amethyst is not well drawn out in seven and will likely be wide the entire journey. She does own a 29.55 personal best, which would test this field. Canya Charlie is just out of maiden class, and this is a massive grade rise.

National Futurity Heat 3 Best Bet – Peloponnese (Race 5)
Peloponnese used her inside box to perfection to gain a quick win last start. She loves box one and if she doesn’t bomb the start should be extremely hard to beat. Questionable needs to lead to win and it is doubtful if she can hold off the pace that is in this race. Screaming Violet is blessed with an early pace, but she does like to drift up the track and that could be problematic; however, if she leads, she has a massive chance of winning. Wellness needs the fence and to be in front and I can’t see her leading this field, but there is hope if she pings the lids. Shaula is another Queenslander coming down from the Bogie Leigh Futurity, she won the Magic Maiden series here back in October flying around in 29.33 and is a massive threat here. Nancy Devere is a Victorian having her first run here and drew the visitors box; a win would surprise. Laura Keeping will win plenty of races but is not sure she will get across from this box.

National Derby Heat 1 Best Bet – Zipping Kristoff (Race 6)
Zipping Kristoff has been flying around the one-turn tracks recently and has an explosive early pace. He did fall his only time here off box seven but looks the one to beat. Italian Stallion comes through the QLD Derby series, where he ran third in the final. He would need to lead to win but can do it. Jungle Johnny could be a superstar if he could just get out of the boxes. His run from box six last start was impressive and if he gets any luck in running, he will be the one charging down the back straight to go out after the leader. Paw Qwan is a quality Victorian who will need luck from the draw but has the ability to feature in the finish. A win would surprise from Scatter Dunn, Big Town Mac and Ritza Ken

National Derby Heat 2 Best Bet – Iconic Jet (Race 7)
Iconic Jet is a superstar Victorian who was unlucky in a Group 1 final before trialling here in 29.78secs. He has won 14 of 21 races and while he isn’t well drawn in box six, he has the pace and ability to overcome that box. Trio Of Clowns is the obvious danger; he has been running quick sectionals and getting better with every run. He ran 29.57 here last start and handles wide draws well. Spring Regency will enjoy the red rug and showed what he can do off an inside draw with a scorching 29.42 win at Sandown two starts back. If he can begin well, he is a serious threat. Talk About It will be fresh after a fall at Richmond, but you must respect the Sultana kennel, and their chargers are always a chance in these races. My Pharoah, Ritza Benji, Neo Devere and Drink Tins would need something special to salute.

National Derby Heat 3 Best Bet – Rippin’ Moses (Race 8)
West Rock Casey will love box one and has been racing over the middle distances. If the field fans at the first turn and gives him a shot along the fence, he will easily run over the top of some of these. Paw Ike is a Victorian with good form; although he hasn’t fired in two runs here, he must be rerespected, especially from the Delbridge kennels. Happy Bandit had been mixing form before an emphatic win last time out; this is tougher though. Crocodile Roll is another Victorian and another with middle-distance form who will need luck. Rippin Moses comes over from W.A with some top form and his 29.88 trial here will do him the world of good. He is definitely the one to beat if he can use his early pace. Ozzie Nick and Rest Assured will need luck. Scrutinise is a query runner, having only had two starts for a fall and a seventh is still eligible for a maiden yet here he is in Group 1, Do the connections know something?

National Derby Heat 4 Best Bet – Mark To Market (Race 9)
Mark To Market had been superb before his last run. He has pace to burn and will need to use it if he is to lead and win. Zig Zag Man has also been low flying of late and also has exceptional early burn. He is not badly boxed in box five but will need to begin and show his pace to burn them off. If he leads, he will win. Paw Oswald is another that has been in superb form and has pace to burn. If he can get across the five and three, he is a massive hope. Moorong Marvel is in good form and in the top NSW kennel, but this is a massive jump from a Goulburn fifth grade. Wraps would need luck to win. Zipping Grinch is honest but not quite up to Group 1 level. A win for Stans Dream or Blazin Fire would shock at odds.

Wentworth Park Best Bet – Speedy Pie (Race 2)
Speedy Pie was in the firing line early in the Group 2 Gosford Gold Cup last start from a horrible draw only to find trouble and run sixth. She will appreciate the drop back to fifth grade and, whilst still drawing badly in box eight, should get a few favours from Royal Panama, who usually begins well and heads left early. She has won four from six from box eight and if she gets the room to move early, she should be extremely hard to beat in this tough fifth grade race.

Wentworth Park Value Bet – Recycled (Race 10)
Recycled has been flying of late and his win here last week off box eight was superb, running good sectional times on the way to a fast 29.65secs win. He draws awkwardly in box four, but with a vacant box five, he should get the room he needs early to accelerate up to his top speed. He will need to find the front and run near his personal best as there are some gun dogs in this race, including Zipping Chaplin, who is Group 1 placed and Gets Late Early, who is a multiple Group 2 winning dog. Recycled should start at value odds with the top online betting sites in a top-quality, non-graded race.
