Zipping Whiskey books ticket into Albion Park Group 3 Dashing Corsair feature final

Zipping Whiskey powers away from the field to win the opening heat of the 2023 Group 3 Dashing Corsair.

Zipping Whiskey arrived in Brisbane ready to show he could flip the script and make an impact on the 2023 Group 3 Dashing Corsair heats at Albion Park on Wednesday night.

His mission was accomplished, winning his heat in an upset that saw race favourite and recent Group 1 Sandown Cup winning chaser, Korda (-117.65 ) left unplaced, against all predictions.

Trained out of Goulburn by , the SH Avatar x Zipping Abby chaser finished second in the heats of The 715m pop-up race at before a fourth placing in the $500,000 to-the-winner final.

Prior to that Zipping Whiskey won last month at The Gardens in a best-of-night 41.50 but it was his experience over the Albion Park 710m that showed in the run on Wednesday, having raced the track and trip three times in January this year.

The Marty Hallinan bred and owned dog was named in the preliminary list for the NSW State of Origin squad for the upcoming series and his Dashing Corsair best-of-night 42.09 heat victory will go towards his credentials, with final teams being named on June 9.

Zipping Whiskey (+400) beat home the -trained She's In Clover (+380) and Tom Tzouvelis-trained Jimmy Intention (+180 ) and will now head into next week's Group 3 Final, with $30,000 to-the-winner on the line.

Zipping Whiskey is a Group 1 finalist having made the 2023 Group 1 Association Cup final over 720m at Wentworth Park, before finishing unplaced.

Korda took out the Group 1 Sandown Cup last , making it a third consecutive victory for the Jeff Britton-trained greyhound, but failed badly, finishing fifth as the +110 favourite.

Korda will now reset and be freshened on the path to the Group 1 in July, currently paying +1200 in greyhound betting markets.

Heat 2 of the Dashing Corsair saw the locally trained Sorority score a determined win in 42.09, after racing handy in the run behind early leader Nangar Rocket.

The Jedda Cutlack-trained Sorority was sent out the best of the local hopes as a +380 third favourite with greyhound bookmakers, while Victorian greyhound flew along the rails late to steal second and qualify for next week's final.

The Dennis Barnes-trained Nangar Rocket, who led until the final corner, faded in the run and missed the final, finishing third 3.75 lengths from the winner as +150 favourite.

Play Nice has previously placed in the 2022 Group 3 Fireball and made the final of the 2022 Group 3 Top Cat Cup, both at The Meadows over 730m.

It could be a memorable night for trainer Tim Britton and breeder Michael Ivers as Play Nice is a litter brother to Group 3 Carnival Chase finalist On The Off, who is raced and trained in the same connections.

Bogie Hurricane gave the locals more cause for celebration leading in a local trifecta in the final 2023 Dashing Corsair heat in 42.23 for trainer , but not before withstanding a late charge from the -trained bolter Spot On Harper, who was a massive +6000 with greyhound betting sites.

Despite the formidable presence of interstate greyhounds such as Cawbourne Magic, , and Ritza Piper; Bogie Hurricane was priced on the the third line of betting as a +400 chance prior to box rise.
