Palawa King surpasses million dollar mark in Origin Distance Race

Palawa King Wins Origin Distance Final

Palawa King showcased his dominance in the realm of Australian greyhound racing by clinching a commanding win at the TAB Origin Distance event (710m) held at Albion Park on Thursday evening.

This triumph not only secured New South Wales lead in the three-part Origin series, but it also propelled Palawa King into the prestigious group of greyhounds who have earned over a million dollars.

The $2.25 bookmaker favourite, boasting five Group 1 victories, crossed the finish line in 41.93 seconds, finishing two and a half lengths ahead of Faheys Magic.

This achievement marked his 29th win out of 69 races and further endorsed trainer Jack Smith’s State of Origin track record.

Smith had previously steered kennel favourites Feral Franky and Jungle Deuce to victory in the Origin Match Race events of 2019 and 2021.

In addition to his triumph on the track, Palawa King has now joined a circle of greyhounds with career earnings surpassing $1 million.

The first-place prize money of $100,000 boosted his earnings to $1.04 million, solidifying his status as the fifteenth greyhound in history to reach this remarkable milestone.

While Queensland may not have taken home the spot, Valpolicella’s third-place finish was enough to elevate her into the ranks of greyhounds that have surpassed one million dollars in career earnings as well.
