Veteran trainer Mick Stringer finally claimed the elusive Aussie Rocks @ Stud Tasmanian Gold Cup on Thursday evening, as Bernie Burrow stormed to victory in the 461-metre race at Hobart.

Starting at $2.35 with the leading greyhound bookmakers from box one, Bernie Burrow established a strong lead early and maintained it, crossing the finish line with a decisive six-length margin over rivals Aston Hematite and Ducati Roy, clocking an impressive time of 25.59 seconds.

The victory marked the greyhound’s 19th win in 45 starts for the Arriva Syndicate, bolstering his record and setting the stage for further competition.

The next steps for Bernie Burrow include a trial in Launceston as preparation for the Barry Heawood Hobart Thousand Prelude, a key race on the path to one of the oldest feature races in Australia, the Group 1 Hobart Thousand at the Summer Racing Festival.

Stringer noted that since acquiring Bernie Burrow from leading Victorian trainer Jason Thompson, who currently has two dogs set to race in The Phoenix next month, the greyhound has shown significant improvement in confidence and performance.

With this victory, Stringer not only adds a long-sought title to his accomplishments but also looks ahead to further challenges, setting the stage for a promising season at Tasmania’s premier racing events.
