Incident Information
This is the 6 o'clock Alert message for the Yea – Murrindindi fire. The fire burning near Alexandra quietened down last night and good progress has been made on all sectors during today. The fire is burning in a north-north-westerly direction and is approximately 110,000 hectares in size.
We are experiencing the forecast wind speed increase of up to 35 kilometres per hour but this is expected to moderate later in the evening.
Residents in the Black Range and Blue Range sections of this fire with properties backing on to the ranges may experience some fire activity where the fire backs down to their land. Fire fighting resources have been deployed to these areas to attack fire as it enters grassland.
The communities of Acheron, Cathedral Lane, Thornton – Taggerty Road, Bulls Lane, Connellys Creek, Crystal Creek, Scrubby Creek and Native Dog Creek need to remain alert due to a high level of fire activity still in the area.
Smoke plumes in the Black Range are from well inside the fire area and not likely to throw spots outside the fire line.
Residents, community members and road users are advised of the following road closures. These roads are closed for your safety as they have been deemed unsafe by Vic Roads and there is still some fire activity. This also allows police to complete their tasks and maintain security.

People in the area need to remain alert as there may not be a warning should conditions change unexpectedly. Continue to listen to ABC or local radio for updates on this fire.
Be prepared to activate your bushfire survival plan if necessary.
Decide now if you are going to stay or go. Remember that it is very dangerous to leave late with a fire in the area. Road use in the area will be extremely hazardous due to low visibility from smoke. Watch out for fallen trees, power lines, abandoned cars, wildlife and emergency services vehicles.
If you plan to stay, remember to seek shelter from radiant heat. Should the fire reach your property, close all doors and windows and stay inside the house while the fire passes. Remain alert, extinguish any small fires and if necessary, move outside to burnt ground once the fire has passed.
