Back To Back Bling In The Sylvester Doyle
Yes readers he has done it again! John Westerlo has once again taken out the first of the Coursing Classics, with his black and white speedster Enchanted Bling taking top honours in the 2014 Sylvester Doyle Puppy Championship in brilliant fashion. John and his wife Carol won this event last year with Bling Ading and as with last year, “Girl Power” ruled on the day. Enchanted Bling (Cosmic Chief – Lady Bling), a black and white bitch whelped Mar 2012 proved to be too good today for the Robert Colpoys trained Forheza (Birthday Boy – Dora Agogo), a black dog also whelped in March 2012. It was a great display by all our puppy finalists, well done to everyone who made it through to today's finals and we hope to see you all at Longwood for the Derby & Oaks on the 2nd & 3rd of August, 2014.
Next up we saw another display of girl power when Shifty Mifty trained by David Dawson got up in the final of this year's Ray Boundy Memorial over Why Not Al trained at Clyde by Wayne Mannix. This course was neck and neck most of the way but Shifty dug deep in the final stages and got the money.
The last of our continued events was the Western Districts Maiden Championship Cup and Queer Banana got the slip on the David Dawson trained Miss Geeves in the final and was too good today. Queer Banana is trained at Lara by Mark Roberts.
Our supporting events kicked off with the All Aged Stake and Black And Cool, trained at Wattle Glen by Pat & Deb Burley, showed his speed and endurance once again, getting up over Tom Fiddian's locally trained Uno Sprite.
The first of our four maiden events was the High Four Pet Supplies Maiden Dog No. 1. It was won by Jonny La Monte for Bruce Loft, another local trainer. Runner-up was the Graham Long trained Ocky Thyme. It was great to see Graham's smiling face after his recent stay in hospital.
The Maiden Dog No. 2 was taken out by the Toni Jones trained Noisemaker who made the journey from Devon Meadows. The Christina Gason trained Corowa Kid was gallant in defeat.
Next up was the Cranbourne GRC Mixed Maiden and this event was won by Gee Callan, who is trained at Bass by Rob & Helen Colpoys and is a litter brother to Forheza. Runner-up was the Melton President Gary Brett's Kimberley Prince. This event was a bit of a surprise to all concerned, with Rob stating on his way to slips for the final, “We can't win this one, he won't come up a third time.” How wrong you were Rob!
The Sale & District GRC Maiden Bitch stake was won by Why Not Heather. She is trained by the mayor of Ballarat's Wayne Gray and got the goods over the David Dawson trained Dublin Down.
The Derby trial today was won by How Time Fly's, trained at Wyndhamvale by Bill Cunningham, with the runner-up being Midnight Flynn trained at Glenrowan by John Carr. Both of these boys will be worth watching at the Derby next month!
Last but by no means least was the Oaks trial and today David Dawson's Puzzle And Me left Pretty Crazy a bit puzzled when she took out this event in another close final.
