The name Palmer has been synonymous in racing and betting circles in Sydney for more than three decades and, after following in the footsteps of their grandfather Ted, brothers Grant, Matt and Adrian Palmer are now among the biggest on course bookmakers in the Harbour City.
But, with the movement away from the traditional on-course betting format, the decision to start providing an online bookmaker service was always inevitable.
The Aussie-owned website was first launched in August 2013, however it wasn’t until 2015 when ‘Palmerbet’ launched into the spotlight following a comprehensive advertising campaign which targeted punters outside of the Sydney area.
But just what makes Palmerbet worth betting with for greyhound racing fans? What can they offer that sets them apart from all the other online bookies offering betting on the dishlickers?
Palmerbet, like all Australian greyhound bookmakers used to offer sign up matched deposit bonuses and promo bonus bets. Unfortunately due to changing Australian regulations those bonus bet are now no longer allowed to be offered in Australia after 26th May 2019. The changes form part of the National Gambling Framework, and the laws that ban bonus bet have become known as the Bonus Bet Ban.
You can read more about the Bonus Bet Ban here:
In November 2018, the federal government announced a Nationwide Gambling Framework for the online gambling industry specifically targeted at licensed Australian bookmakers. The National Consumer Protection for Online Wagering laws are designed to shield minors, gambling addicts and other vulnerable sectors of the community from the various advertising and marketing strategies employed by betting operators.
While that may result in fewer gambling and Palmerbet ads during footy telecasts, it also spells the end for anything that might be considered an inducement to sign up at a bookmaker such as free bets, bonus rewards, betting specials offers, boosted odds, weekly promotions, and signup bonuses. As of 26th May 2019 they are all dead to online punters and bettors, with the exception of promotions and bonuses that are paid out as cash in your account balance such as early payout offers on NRL & AFL games. Anything that pays out as bonus offers or bonus bets are banned.
Yes, it includes Palmerbet.
Palmerbet offers fixed odds betting for all Australian and New Zealand greyhound events, allowing punters to secure a price which is guaranteed not to fluctuate once your money has been wagered.
Alternatively, punters can also bet using the ‘tote’ which is based on the pari-mutuel market, meaning the odds for each greyhound can firm and drift depending on the size of the betting pool and how much money is wagered on each dog. Palmerbet pays out according to the middle tote which means you will receive the odds at jump time which are the second highest of the three Australian totes.
When betting on the greyhounds with Palmerbet, punters have a variety of options such as win and place as well as the traditional exotics – quinella, exacta, trifecta and first four.
Additionally, Palmerbet is unique in that it also provides some interesting alternative markets such as odds vs. even – i.e placing a bet that the winner of the race will salute wearing an odd number rug (1,3,5 or 7) or even (2,4,6 or 8).
You can also bet on inside (boxes 1-4) vs. outside (boxes 5-8), bookends (1 and 8) vs. field (boxes 2-7) and favourite (shortest price runner) vs. the field (remaining greyhounds).
Palmerbet have ensured there is a way for everyone to deposit cash into their betting accounts, with a wide range of options for punters.
The most common method is via your Visa or MasterCard, with funds appearing instantly in your account. You can also choose to use an e-wallet, such as POLi, or via BPAY or bank transfer. It is important to keep in mind that methods such as bank transfer and BPAY can take up to 24 hours to reach your betting account depending on what time of the day you make your deposit.
When it comes to withdrawing winnings from your Palmerbet account, the simplest way is via an electronic funds transfer. This method will see the cash appear in your designated Australian bank or credit union account within two working days.
In addition to betting with Palmerbet on your laptop of PC, the online bookie has also developed an app to make betting on your mobile phone or tablet device simple, fast and efficient.
If you don’t wish to download the app, but still want to have a bet on the go, Palmerbet also offers betting through its mobile website which can be accessed through your phone’s web browser.
The mobile site is essentially the same as the app, albeit slightly slower, with the range of betting options and security standards the same for both.
With the world of online bookies booming, it can be hard to know who to trust when it comes to wagering with your hard-earned coin.
Australian Racing Greyhound wants to ensure our readers are only betting with the most reputable and respected online bookmakers.
Palmerbet is a secure betting site featuring the highest standards of encryption software to guarantee your personal and banking details are secure at all times.
If you still don’t feel 100 per cent comfortable, perhaps consider using an e-wallet service to deposit funds into your account which means your financial details are not shared with the bookmaker directly.
