2009 Group 1 Laurels Favourite Under Injury Cloud
The 2009 Group 1 Laurels final is just days away now, and panic has gone through the Nova Surf camp and the Sandown Greyhound Club after Nova Surf was found to be injured following her breathtaking semi final win in 29.74.
After striding to the post for the easiest of wins, she eased down in to the catching pen but was so far ahead of the rest of the field that she was at a complete stop and side on to a lagging runner who “t-boned” straight in to her.
Despite no mention in the stewards report, the speedy youngster was seen to be very dazed after the incident and walked off the track very gingerly.
Given the circumstances Nova Surf’s connections will be more than happy to know she is under Darren McDonald‘s care and attention leading up the the final, as he is one of the few trainers with the eye to detail and commitment to ensure Nova Surf is a fit as can be for the final.
However, high inpact collision‘s like that can not only cause serious bruising and aprian but also dent confidence and coming in to Thursday night’s final, Nova Surf only has about 3 lengths up her sleev to lose.
Should she start in the Group 1 Laurels final and be off her “A game” more than 4 lengths, then the race will be as open as the Sydeny Heads from whence she hails.
You can watch Nova Surf’s brilliant semi final win below, but unfortunately it does not show the incident.
