2023 Group 1 Topgun and Topgun Stayers acceptors named
The Melbourne Greyhound Racing Association (MGRA) sent out invitations in mid-October for greyhound owners to nominate their dogs for the 2023 Group 1 Topgun and Group 1 Topgun Stayers events.
The two Group 1 races are scheduled to take place on Saturday, November 11, at The Meadows.
After a few weeks deliberation, MGRA and Greyhound Racing Victoria (GRV) have announced that 23 greyhounds have accepted an invitation for the Group 1 Topgun, down from the original 34 invited for the race.
Amron Boy was a notable absence from the Topgun Sprint acceptors after tearing a tricep muscle in the 2023 Cranbourne Cup final at Sandown on Thursday night.
Just eight greyhounds will be named for the $100,000 to Topgun.
The Group 1 Topgun Stayers has seen 14 greyhounds accept for the race, down from the 25 invited dogs.
The Topgun Stayers race is also a Group 1 event with a prize pool of $100,000; its winner will earn $40,000.
The final list of participants for both races will be announced on Thursday, November 2, 2023.
