Barcia Bale Makes It Eight In A Row In Maturity Classic Heats

The amazing run of continued with a Best of Night 29.90 gallop in a heat of the 1 Hudson Pacific at The Meadows on Saturday night, making it eight wins from as many starts.

The son of and jumped cleanly and outpaced fellow star to the first corner, stopping the clock at a sizzling 4.98. From there, the black chaser showed electrifying speed, opening up a large break before stopping the second sectional timer at 17.55, just .08 outside El Grand Senor’s record.

The Graeme Bate-trained chaser eventually ran out a three and three-quarter length winner over Ima Geisha Girl, with both stars progressing to next week’s semi-finals.

It was a big night for owners the Wheeler family, with Desalle Bale (a sister to Barcia Bale) running the second best time of the night after beginning brilliantly off box eight and giving nothing else a chance, clocking 29.97 on a rain-affected track. They also watched on as young star Razza Bale won heat two in 30.18, while the pint-sized Hannie Bale led from go to whoa in the third heat, stopping the timer at 30.10.

Trainer also enjoyed success on the night, finishing with two winners and a second from just four starters. His most impressive came later in the night when Maverick Tiger – a brother to fellow semi-final qualifier Odie For Now – toyed with his rivals in heat 10, running 30.12 as the rain continued to tumble.

Others to impress included Peter Rocket – who took out the first heat in 30.02 – and Sapporo, who recorded his sixth win over the 525-metres at The Meadows with a 30.21 gallop for trainer Tina Womann.

The winners, seconds and 10 fastest thirds now qualify for next week’s semi finals, with Barcia Bale now a clear favourite to take out July 28’s $100,000 to the winner final. Next week will also see the running of heats for the over 725 metres.
