Berridale Boy qualifies the fastest for Group 3 Dapto Maiden

BERRIDALE Boy will head into next week’s 3 Maiden as the fastest qualifier following a stunning 29.64 win in his semi-final of the series on Thursday night.

Jumping well from box seven, the Ken Burnett-trained dog was able to carve across from the outside draw, booting up on the inside of Fantastic Wayne (box eight) around the first turn to roll to the lead.

Heading into the back, the black dog was able to kick clear, extending his lead in the home straight to score by five and one quarter lengths ahead of Manzanares (box one), with Fantastic Wayne filling the trifecta in third.

A son of Swift Fancy and Berridale Queen, Berridale Boy came into the series following a 22.67 performance trial at , followed by an average 30.80 performance trial at Dapto. He improved on that time in his heat last week, running seven and three quarter lengths third behind Costin in 29.88.

The second semi-final saw Vintage Ally (box one) and Zipping Tatum (box two) start as the equal favourites, however when the lids flew open it was roughie Mornington Star (box three) which went to the early lead.

Down the back and the two favourites were second and third, with Vintage Ally galloping on the leaders heels on the top turn, causing her to lose momentum. Swinging for home and Zipping Tatum started closing quickly, barging Vintage Ally out of the way and storming down the centre of the track to grab the lead and score by a head in 30.23.

Flashing home to grab second was One Plus Two (box seven) at double figure odds, with Vintage Ally coming again on the line to pinch third, just half a length off the winner.

’s Elantris (box one) was all the rage in the third semi, sent to the boxes as the $1.90 favourite following on from his 29.89 heat victory the week prior.

However when the lids flew open it was 25-1 shot which was able to bounce on the bunny and bound along in front, with the favourite slotting right in behind him in second.

Despite Elantris’ best efforts, he could not get within two and one quarter lengths of the winner on the line which clocked a 29.73 over the 520m trip.

The fourth and final semi was another all-the-way affair, with Costin showing tremendous early pace from box seven, making every post a winner in a neat 30.00.

A daughter of and Glory Of Love, the red fawn bitch has now won two of her six starts in addition to three minor placings, including a 29.88 personal best at Dapto which was recorded in her heat.
