Better Call Caul - latest Irish and UK racing news with Barry Caul

ARG's Barry Caul takes a look at all 16 heats in the second round of the 2022 at . The first eight heats will take place on night, with the remaining eight to be held on Saturday.

Heat 1

  1. Glengar Scholar
  2. Seomra Razl
  3.
Callmesteve
  4.
Swift Woof

  5. Derrinasafa Boss
  6.
Faughan Rebel

The evergreen Faughan Rebel added another victory to his tally last weekend when coming from well off the pace to score in 29:32 (fastest of this line-up) He shows no sign of stopping despite approaching his fifth birthday. Callmesteve was another to come from well of the pace when he got up late to deny Glengar Scholar who reopposes in trap one. Preference is for Glengar Scholar to get revenge this weekend, he posses more early pace than his main rivals and could be gone beyond . Swift Woof has a good draw in four and looks a threat.

Selection: Glengar Scholar

Heat 2

  1. Signet Denver
  2.
Ballymac Belvult
  3.
Lemon Bartacus

  4. Innfield Trojan
  5.
Amaze Me Seb

Former record holder Sporting Chile is the one to focus on in heat two. He ran much better than the placings suggest last week behind Spinosaurus when he was impeded on more than one occasion. He is strongly fancied to return to winning ways in this. Signet Denver in one rates the main danger, a good winner of his last two starts he is perfectly drawn in red.

Selection: Sporting Chile

Heat 3

  1. Longrange Dick

  2. Aussie Captain
  3.
Spinosaurus

  4. Headford Mike
  5.
Daring Deise

  6. Narcos Dode

Spinosaurus beat a good field in round one when he made all for Jim Turner but as we have seen before he is not always the most consistent of starters and he will move to his left to the corner. Daring Deise was a shock $21 winner last week but looks to be an improving young greyhound. Headford Mike ran well behind a good winner last week and has the best of the draw. Narcos Dode will be finishing fastest of all.

Selection: Headford Mike

Heat 4

  1. Cushie Concorde

  2. Hello Hammond

  3. Kilkenny Santy

  4. Stefans Rocket

  5. Ballymore Border

  6. Coppice Brewer

Cushie Concorde ran a promising race behind his kennel companion Ballinabola Ed in round one and he has a major chance to make all in heat four. Hello Hammond and Kilkenny Santy are better over further and may struggle to the corner. Ex Irish tracker Stefans Rocket can fly to the turn on his day and certainly has a nice draw in four. Former Dublin Cup winner Ballymore Border outran his odds last week and remains a dog to keep on side. Cushie Concorde will look to make all but do not ignore Stefans Rocket in four.

Selection: Stefans Rocket

Heat 5

  1. Skywalker Forte

  2. Swift Iconic

  3. Burnchurch Mick
  4.
Jumeirah Jimmy

  5. Milton Noah
  6.
All About Ted

Last years finalist All About Ted was back to his brilliant best from this box last week and its hard to see anything troubling him if he can put in a repeat performance. Burnchurch Mick may well improve for his latest outing and will try to make all from box three.

Selection: All About Ted

Heat 6

  1. Deadly Showtime

  2. Borna Wine
  3.
Da Bold Freddie
  4.
Narcos The Great
  5.
Signet Goofy
  6.
Droopys Goodtime

Plenty of early pace in heat six where the early lead is crucial. Da Bold Freddie ran out an ultra-impressive winner last week when making all. Deadly showtime was also foot perfect last time and it should be a fascinating battle to the corner. Signet Goofy has some smart sprint form and was another to make all in round one. The draw may just swing it and for that reason we will side with Deadly Showtime.

Selection: Deadly Showtime

Heat 7

  1. Freedom Alibi

  2. Deelish Frankie
  3.
Ballymac Leon

  4. Bockos Belly

  5. Ballinaboola Ed
  6.
Narcos Tata

Ballinabola Ed was one of the most taking winners of the first round and you get the impression there is plenty more to come from Pat Buckley's young star tracker. He now finds himself as favourite in most ante post lists an its easy to see why. The draw looks ideal. Last years semi finalist Bockos Belly returned to something like his best when winning his first-round heat but faces a tricky draw. Liam Dowling's Ballmac Leon was another who really impressed in round one and has a nice draw in box three, he should give the favourite most to think about.

Selection: Ballinabola Ed

Heat 8

  1. Antigua Cuddles
  2.
Farneys Maestro
  3.
Signet Ace

  4. Skywalker Stan

  5. Bubbly Apache

  6. Savana Camino

The final heat on Friday night will be dominated in the market by Bubbly Apache. He showed massive early pace to go clear last week before being caught in the dying strides by the blitz finish of Barefoot Supremo. He can be expected to come on for the run and looks the one to side with. Antigua Cuddles is always on the premises at the business end while there may be more to come from Farneys Maestro.

Selection: Bubbly Apache

Heat 9

  1. Baggios Champ

  2. Ballymac Fairone

  3. Savana Beau
  4.
Singalong Sally
  5.
Emilys Jet

  6. Old Fort Chicago

Saturdays session kicks off with leading lady Singalong Sally likely to be popular in the ring. At first glance she appears to have a horrid draw in trap four, far away from the inside she craves, but with the three inside her not renowned for there trapping ability or early pace she could find it easy enough to get across to the fence. If she does, she will be a tough nut to crack. With Sally edging inwards you would have to give a big chance to Emilys Jet in five, he was an impressive winner in round one and should have plenty of room to operate.

Selection: Singalong Sally

Heat 10

  1. Knight Tornado
  2.
Part Blake
  3.
Romeo On Tilt

  4. Trumps Benefit

  5. Glengar Jenny

Not a lot to separate these on last weeks running. Part Blake remains right up there as one of the favourites for outright glory, but he has a tricky enough draw outside his kennel mate Knight Tornado who is improving with each outing. Bobsleigh Dream was an impressive winner in the first round but may struggle early against some of these. Glengar Jenny would prefer to be drawn a little more central while Romeo On Tilt will have to come from off the pace. Knight Tornado is one of the best around on his day and last weeks run was a step back in the right direction.

Selection: Knight Tornado

Heat 11

  1. Makeit For Waz

  2. Droopys Cavalry

  3. Whats Up Eva

  4. Make Noise

  5. Chubbys Jet

  6. Deanridge Skippy

Deanridge Skippy was the only one of these successful in round one and a repeat performance could well be good enough from a favourable draw. Makeit For Waz led for a long way behind a hot winner last time while Whats Up Eva is a bitch who can fly to the turn.

Selection: Deanridge Skippy

Heat 12

  1. Global Vision

  2. Cape Cloud

  3. Bockos Leah

  4. Skywalker Barry

  5. Mickys Barrett

  6. Fernandes

The Irish runners will look to dominate heat twelve. Skywalker Barry was at his imperious best last week when making all and will be looking to do the same again here. Bockos Leah ran well to qualify last week and is far better than that display, she is likely to improve on that run and has a massive chance here. Cape Cloud was another who impressed in round one and Mickys Barrett is not without a chance although she needs to improve her trapping.

Selection: Bockos Leah

Heat 13

  1. Jaytee Wexford

  2. Barefoot Supremo

  3. Dreamers United

  4. Wide Open

  5. Le Bonite

  6. Bockos Vieira

One of the heats of the night and another set to be dominated by the Irish Runners. Barefoot Supremo came from another parish to snatch victory last week but is likely to be off the pace again as they enter the back straight. Wide Open has a good record around here and returned to winning ways last time, she needs to be on her toes early. Bockos Vieira may be a middle seed, but I think he could go well from six in this, a lightly raced dog he was visually very impressive when scoring in round one.

Selection: Bockos Vieira

Heat 14

  1. Romeo De Niro

  2. Dapper Rodney

  3. Coppice Fox

  4. Magical Duke

  5. Priceless Jet

Magical Duke was a good winner last week for Gary Griffiths and the early lead is once again up for grabs in this heat. Priceless Jet has long been one of the fastest dogs around both Ireland and in the UK and is a former record holder around here, as well as a classic winner back home in Ireland. However, Hoodooo Brown is a dog with massive potential and ran far better than his placing suggests last week. He can go up better but really turns on the afterburners from halfway. He is a joy to watch and is fancied to take heat fourteen.

Selection: Hoodoo Brown

Heat 15

  1. Romeo Magico

  2. Coolavanny Calvn

  3. Goldies Perryman
  4.
Storys Peewee

  5. Lautaro
  6. Ninja Kerry

New holder Lautaro was simply stunning when making all last week and he has another good draw in this outside Storys Peewee. Its simple, if he repeats that run, he wins. Romeo Magico and Coolavanny Calvn are two of Irelands absolute best and Lautaro will have to be on his A game if he is to emerge on top. Romeo Magico has meet and beat the best around for some time now and he will be no pushover from box one. Ignore his latest run as he is a much better dog off the front.

Selection: Romeo Magico

Heat 16

  1. Kildare
  2.
Masters Ten Ten
  3.
Zazzeras Jack

  4. Blackrose Tadgh

  5. Scarty Yank

  6. Thorn Falcon

The last of the second-round heats but what a heat it is. Last years derby champion Thorn Falcon ran a remarkable race in the first round and is clearly returning to the top of his game, he adores box six and will be hard to contain if granted a clear run. Kildare is a puppy of immense potential and is another well drawn on the inside for Peter Cronin. Scarty Yank and Masters Ten Ten were both winners in round one but face much tougher opposition tonight.

Selection: Thorn Falcon
