Golden Easter Egg semi finals preview & tips | Wentworth Park

Australian Racing Greyhound has delved into the form of all the runners on this sensational Saturday night of greyhound action at Wentworth Park. We have looked at all three heats of the Association Cup, the four Golden Easter Egg semi finals, the Magic Maiden final, and the Group 3 Simply Limelight New Sensation final. Here’s hoping we can lead you to a few winners on a night of world-class greyhound racing.
Association Cup Heat 1
720m – Race 1 – 6:09pm AEST
Victorian star Zulu Blast had his first look at Wentworth Park on March 30, so expect big improvement from a classy stayer. Sin Rap Explode broke the Richmond track record and can motor early, but he will need to improve in Group 1 company. Al’s Entity has the biggest motor of all of these but can find trouble in his races. Bella Una is the middle-distance champion of the year and can blow these away early with her extreme early pace, but can she run the 720m out? Canya Amy has shown promise in her first few goes at the staying trip; she should be running on and might need luck.

Palawa King is the best stayer in the country, and with the vacant box under him, he should be able to find a handy position early and pick them off one by one. Drill Sergeant is in superb form and ran second to Palawa King in the Group 1 Fanta Bale final in Victoria in February, so he’s a definite danger. Sublime Ethics could lead and give you a sight for your money out in front.

Queensland raider Valpolicella has already run a sensational 41.80 around here, and from box one, she should either lead or be right on the leader’s hammer en route to a comfortable win. Aston Costello ran a good fourth in the middle-distance championships, has good early speed and could serve it up to the favourite early. Has Ability does have some, and plenty of early pace, and if the red misses the kick, he can lead and make a nuisance of himself. Misty Black has placed at Group 1 level and would need luck from the draw but isn’t hopeless by any stretch.

520m – Race 4 – 7:09pm AEST
Golden Phase did everything right on debut in the heats, but she draws awkwardly outside the only other runner that can match her in the early stages. If she crosses this field, she wins. Likewise, Be Wowed will be improved from a promising heat, and if he holds out Golden Phase and crosses Marshall Kade, he may win it. Heat winner Marshall Kade won’t lead and will need luck from box one; if he gets off the track, he will likely find trouble. Zipping Bonucci, another heat winner who is a slow beginner, will also need luck but is always a chance in this type of race.

Zali Keeping showed her blistering early pace in the heats, and while box five is awkward, the dog drawn beneath her is often moderately away and could give her space to lead and win. Smooth Plane will have taken massive improvement from his win on his Wentworth Park debut and draws much better in box four, provided Zali doesn’t chop him off in the early stages. Omega Travis can run the times if he begins on terms with them, but he could also get buried from box one if he doesn’t. Ned Al Sheba is gallant but would need luck and improvement.

All Natural blew the start on her first look at Wentworth Park, but she will have taken plenty of improvement from that and should lead this race and be extremely hard to beat. Nangar Jim rarely runs a bad race and is a cups king, but he probably can’t match All Natural early if she nails the start. Tim Zoo was ultra-impressive in his Wenty Park debut and is already a Group 1 winner, but he does take a few strides to get going and that might be crucial in this race. Irinka Daniel can figure with luck in running and is extremely strong.

Golden Easter Egg Semi Final 3
520m – Race 7 – 8:15pm AEST
August Bob gave nothing else a chance in his heat, and while this is a tougher race, he will be hard to beat if he replicates last week’s career-best effort. Nangar Larry is a top-class sprinter who has never been beaten from box one. Ferness hasn’t won at Wenty Park yet, but when he gets it right, he is lightning early and can break their hearts on the bunny. Angel Shirley is the novice of the field but has run 29.55 here; however, the draw is horrible for her and she will need luck. Victorian star Schillaci hasn’t put it together in NSW yet and is badly drawn outside of these superstars.

How do you tip against the second-fastest dog to ever go around Wentworth Park? If Mackenna does what she did last week, or even improves, it is hard to see anything catching her. Zipping Megatron always needs a touch of luck with the way he begins, but he is a freak who boasts blistering mid-race pace. Kangaroo Jack looked good in the heats but is unlikely in this. Shima Current is a special talent but can’t blow the start again against these and is horribly drawn inside Mackenna. Go Bears is a very strong greyhound but can’t give this class much of a headstart.

Simply Limelight New Sensation Final
520m – Race 9 – 9:19pm AEST
In the heats, Power And Glory produced one of the top-five fastest times ever seen on this track, and he will need to something similar if he is to match his main rival. Good Odds Cobber draws immediately outside Power and Glory and rarely does anything wrong, and connections chose this race over the Golden Easter Egg. Aunt Virginia could have had 10 in a row if it wasn’t for horrible luck in the Group 1 Futurity final, and she is a definite chance if she can come out running. Barefoot Dave was very good in the heats but will need to go quicker to win this. Overflow Jill has tremendous early pace and could hold the fence early, which would enhance her chances of finding the podium.
