Rockhampton greyhounds preview

is set to host a 12-race program on Wednesday night from 6:55PM local time. The meeting is headlined by the 2023 Rockhampton final set to be run over the 407m featuring the likes of Phantom Star, , and Mr O'Sullivan. Also, there's a cracking free-for-all where local stars Dixie Gambles and Sir Banjo are set to sizzle.

Best Bet: Sir Banjo (Race 7)

Local leading trainer has a stranglehold on this race with three of the seven starters. Arguably, his two kennel starts, Dixie Gambles and Sir Banjo, will clash, and it's the latter who appears extremely hard to beat. Sir Banjo has really hit form over his past three starts, having won two by a combined five lengths while recording a personal best of 29.69 over the 510m at Rockhampton. He trialed sharply in the lead up to the Cup, where he was eliminated in the heats due to a wide box. He has a terrific map on Wednesday night with no speed expected from Allegation and a skill set drawn in box three set to run Dixie Gambles off the track on the first turn. Sir Banjo can use the inside draw, rail hard, and prove hard to run down.

Next Best: Chipped Penny (Race 2)

Chipped Penny returns from a four-month spell and has relocated to Phillip Sear from winning trainer Michael Boody. The daughter of x New Abode is a litter sister to , who brought the Townsville Cup back to Rockhampton last night. Chipped Penny has shown glimpses of ability in two starts to date, running a few lengths behind Legendary Spyro and Ninetymile Rocks. Both of the above-mentioned runners have since gone on to have good careers, winning multiple races. There's no funny business here with Chipped Penny, as she's first up over 510m and is sure to be tied down. Expect a quick getaway and a large margin to be created mid race.

Best Value: Creme De Monte (Race 6)

A good contest is expected in this fifth-grade 510m affair, and Creme De Monte can come out on top. The three-year-old is lightly raced for her age, having only had 21 starts where she has recorded six wins and seven placings. She has raced consistently in her past four outings, running third on all occasions. Last start, she ran third to Skill Set in 30.33. Notably, she had three weeks between runs and was up 900 grams on her previous effort. With this, improvement is expected on Wednesday night, and she is drawn ideally in the pink, recording a win from her only start. Riverina Knight will cut , which will give her space to loop around this field down the back straight and put it to bed.
