Rockhampton betting tips
The dogs head to Rockhampton on Wednesday night for a full book of 12 races on April 13th. ARG's expert shares his best bets and value plays for every race.

Race 1: Life Members Maiden Heat 1 (407m)

We start the night off with two heats of the life members maiden over the Rocky 407m. The first four greyhounds crossing the finishing line in each heat will progress into next week's final April 13. First heat is only a field of six starters, with one debutant – Stolen Jade (box 1). Obviously, this daughter of Zambora Brockie is no relation to the Clarry Connors trained racehorse of namesake which has good ability. Drawing the red rug to start your racing career is always the best start a greyhound can get. Must be a winning chance, especially if there is a betting move for her. Raven On Koby (box 2) made her debut here at Rockhampton last Wednesday night from the same box draw when finishing second behind Goody Goody Yum. This trained daughter of only clocked a moderate 24.82 seconds but did meet early trouble. She should improve from that run and be a winning chance tonight. The Darren Taylor trained Genius You (box 5) has not started since finishing fifth on debut at Rockhampton February 9 from box eight, when in the betting. This son of Barcia Bale looked uncomfortable in the run so may have pulled up with a problem. Expect good improve tonight so must be in the winning mix. All other starters in this heat have not won a maiden race in over 20 starts so cannot be considered.

Race 2: Life Members Maiden Heat 2 (407m)

This is our second heat of the life members maiden with seven starters. This is a tricky race to assess as four of these seven starters are debutants. The Boody family train two of these debutants – Ring Me (box 3) for leading trainer Ken Boody and Guru Bart (box 4) for Steven Boody. They are littermates and bred to show early speed being by . Darren Taylor trains Beau's Road (box 1). This son of Oaks Road has the best draw of the debutants tonight. Wearing the red rug certainly gives him a great chance to run well. Trainer Rob Weeding has Unify (box 8). She is by the great sire , which has produced a lot of speedy greyhounds so she may fit this bill. Watch for betting moves as this is normally a good guide to their abilities. Of The raced brigade, the Clinton Thompson trained Systems Down (box 2) looks the best chance in this heat. This daughter of Orson Allen improved at her second career start here last Wednesday night, to finish third behind Goody Goody Yum from box eight. Although beaten nearly six lengths, she should appreciate this low draw tonight.

Race 3: Garrard's Horse And Hound 5th Grade (510m)

This is a good strong 5th grade race over the 520m distance. It appears to have multiple winning chances. Leading trainer Ken Boody has two starters in this race. Has been lucky enough to draw the two inside boxes – Foxy One (box 1) and Dixie Gambles (box 2). Foxy one has drawn the red rug for the first time tonight. She has previously run well from box two, so should love this draw and be in the finish here. Dixie Gambles is probably Ken's best winning chance as she should lead Foxy One early and cross to the rails. Trainer Adam McIntosh brings Maddison (box 7) back to Rockhampton tonight. This daughter of Fernando Bale won her debut start over the Rocky 520m from box one clocking a good 30.38 seconds. She can handle wide draws and does have a slow beginner direct drawn inside her. Trainer Christopher Riordon starts Pinto Falabella (box 5) over the Rockhampton 520m for the first time tonight. No doubt in preparation for the upcoming Rockhampton Cup heats April 22. He shows good early speed and might overcome this tricky middle draw tonight. Trainer Peta Boon steps Misunderstood (box 4) back up to the 520m distance tonight. He is currently in good form, clocking a quick 24 seconds winning over the 407m last Wednesday night from box three.

Race 4: Diplock's Collision Repair Centre 3rd / 4th Grade (510m)

Trainer Robert Jacobsen makes to trip up the Bruce highway from Brisbane tonight with two runners in this race – Capture Bart (box 2) and Jagger Moves (box 4). Another trainer looking to give their greyhounds experience around the Rockhampton track prior to the Rockhampton Cup heats. Jagger Moves should be his best winning chance in this race. Cascade Monelli (box 5) was luckless in her debut run at Rockhampton last Wednesday night, finishing second behind Hearts Colliding from box five. Has the middle draw again tonight, but should be suited in this six dog race and must be a winning chance. Velocity Tamika (box 1) beat Say Some Words (box 8) back in February wearing the red rug, when a very short priced favourite. She loves inside draws and must be a winning chance here. The Darren Taylor trained Say Some Words looks best the chance of the other greyhounds. Has previously beaten the smart Canary Wharf over this track and distance in a very quick 30.06 seconds.

Race 5: Dinky Di Web Design 4th / 5th Grade Heat 1 (407m)

This is the first of seven heats tonight over the Rocky 407m, for 4th and 5th grade greyhounds. Sponsored by our good sponsors, Dinky Di Web Design. The first four greyhounds crossing the finishing line in each of the seven heats will progress into the semis on April 22. Clinton Thompson has two greyhounds in this heat – Zipping Fern (box 4) and Rosa's Memory (box 8). Both greyhounds look winning chances, given clear galloping room early in this race. If so, they should both qualify for the semis. The Neville Jackson trained Our Anneeka (box 2) made her Rockhampton debut last Wednesday finishing third behind Zipping Fern from box eight. Should be improved by that run and has a good low draw in this heat. has Tokyo Flying (box 7) in this heat. Better suited to an inside draw but can certainly qualify for the semis if given galloping room early. Kooky Loopy (box 1) is coming off a victory from box eight last Wednesday and has never been unplaced in four starts wearing the red rug over this track and distance. Peta Boon trained Velocity Admit (box 6) has not raced since January 1. Has raced well here previously without winning and has a tricky draw to overcome tonight.

Race 6: Dinky Di Web Design 4th / 5th Grade Heat 2 (407m)

In this second heat, Clinton Thompson has (box 3). He looks the greyhound to beat in this heat. Was slightly disappointing last Wednesday when finishing fourth behind kennelmate Rosa's Memory from box seven. From this low draw tonight, expect him to be contesting the lead rounding the first bend. Christine Pollard has Camino Angel (box 2) in this heat. She is currently in good form, winning her last two starts from wide draws over this track and distance, clocking good times. Looks a big danger from her favourable low draw tonight. Tuesday's Gone (box 6) was a good winner last Wednesday night in our master's 5th grade race beating Scandalise from box three, clocking a good 24.03 seconds. She has a tricky draw tonight, but a repeat of that effort would see her qualify for the semis. Scandalise (box 5) is currently in good form and cannot be left out of all exotics.

Race 7: Dinky Di Web Design 4th / 5th Grade Heat 3 (407m)

This is the third heat. The Darren Taylor trained Mia Magic (box 3) looks the greyhound to beat in this heat. This daughter of Magic Sprite has contested harder races in both of her starts over this track and distance, clocking good times when beaten. Tonight, with a slow beginner drawn directly inside of her, expect her to lead all the way here. The Christine Pollard trained (box 5) looks the obvious danger in this heat. She is currently in good form and can overcome this tricky middle draw. The Peta Boon trained Velocity Cazau (box 1) is wearing the red rug tonight and must be included in the winning chances. She won her only start from this box draw January 1, clocking a good 24.31 seconds. Leading trainer Ken Boody has Noise Works (box 6) entered in this heat. This son of Thirty Talks can certainly gallop given clear galloping room. May get a good cart across from this tricky draw outside Jackie Dee. If so, he can look a winning chance and fight the finish out here.

Race 8: Rockhampton Wildcard Final Open (510m)

This is our Rockhampton Wildcard Final. Winner to receive automatic entry into the $60,000 Rockhampton Cup final April 29 – big carrot indeed!. Last Wednesday drew two very good heats with the first four placegetters progressing into this final tonight. Heat winners were , clocking 30.13 seconds from box six and Canary Wharf, clocking 30.16 seconds from box eight. The Ken Boody trained Zip Stream (box 2) looks the greyhound to beat from her low draw in this final. She has the early speed to hold out rival greyhounds and could improve from her heat win. That was her first run over the Rockhampton 520m distance. Informality (box 4) ran second in his heat behind Zip Stream from box four, beaten less than one length. From this same middle draw, has enough early pace to position himself outside Zip stream early and put himself into a winning position if good enough. Canary Wharf (box 6) has good early speed to offset this tricky draw. Has won five of his ten starts over this track and distance, placed in all other five attempts as well – great record. Is a definite winning chance if breaks go his way early in this race. Leading trainer Ken Boody qualified four greyhounds for this final. Apart from Zip Stream, Wink At Me (box 3) could be his next best winning chance here, as he drew a good low draw in box three. Great Wildcard final race tonight, enjoy watching this unfold!

Race 9: Dinky Di Web Design 4th / 5th Grade Heat 4 (407m)

Back to the Dinky Di Web Design heats over the Rocky 407m. This will be heat number four. The Mark Bube trained Black Baccara (box 1) should appreciate wearing the red rug in this heat. Has recorded personal best times in South Australia from this good box draw. Was caught off the track last start behind Barely Friendly from box eight. Drops back to easier company tonight and should prove the greyhound to beat here. The Ken Boody trained Farmor Crownies (box 4) is a veteran greyhound, over 4years of age. He still shows good early speed which can offset this middle draw. Should contest the early lead and be in the finish in this heat. The Gary Weeding trained Blazing Brothers (box 2) might get a good run around the first turn from this low draw tonight and could be a winning chance. Tokyo Chief (box 6) is poorly drawn in this heat. Would prefer an inside draw but will look to finish in the top four placings to qualify into the semis. Robert Jackson starts Ticket To Venus (box 5) at Rockhampton for the first time tonight in this heat. Normally not a quick beginner so will need luck to qualify into the semis.

Race 10: Dinky Di Web Design 4th / 5th Grade Heat 5 (407m)

The Ken Boody trained Daisy Cousins (box 2) is fresh off a four week break. She likes to take a step to the right directly after the start so will need a little luck early but can still win. The Christine Pollard trained (box 8) is probably the best performed greyhound in this heat. Might get a good run down the outside early from this box draw and looks a good winning chance. The Clinton Thompson trained Rosa's Gold (box 1) was disappointing last Wednesday night when unplaced from box five, after coming back from a South Australian trip away. With Daisy Cousins drawn directly outside of her, Rosa could get a glorious run early inside of Daisy going around the first turn. If so, she is a winning chance. The Raymond Young trained Hear Footsteps (box 3) is not drawn well and will need to avoid Daisy Cousins early. Is currently in good form, clocking a personal best time winning last start so can qualify for the semis. Country Mist (box 5) And Francis Geoffrey (box 7) will need luck from their poor draws tonight.
Selections: 2-8-1-3

Race 11: Dinky Di Web Design 4th / 5th Grade Heat 6 (407m)

Trainer Adam McIntosh brings Inner Tea Cup (box 3) back to Rockhampton tonight. She is currently flying, winning her last two starts at Ipswich in best of the day times over 431m. She led all the way March 9 here beating On The Bayou, clocking a very quick 23.72 seconds from box three. The Gary Weeding trained Shian Ned (box 7) would prefer an inside draw but can handle wide draws. She is a good honest consistent chaser who must be a winning chance if things go her way. The Darren Taylor trained Pacific Bug (box 2) was luckless last start from the tricky middle draw of box four. With a slow beginner drawn inside of her tonight, expect to be in the finish and qualify for the semis. Leading trainer Ken Boody has Molly's My Mum (box 8) entered in this heat. She has not raced since February 9 when finishing last. Fresh and loves drawing box eight, winning her previous two starts from this draw. Toyko Dreamer (box 5) and the big boy Blazing Norman (box 6) will need luck from their tricky middle box draws tonight.

Race 12: Dinky Di Web Design 4th / 5th Grade Heat 7 (407m)

This is the last heat to qualify into the semis April 22 and rounds off a great night of greyhound racing at Rockhampton. The leading trainer Ken Boody has Barely Friendly (box 3) in this heat. Fresh from his Townsville victory March 29 easily beating the very talented Zip Stream, clocking best of the day 28.60 seconds. With two slow beginners drawn inside him, he should lead all the way in this heat. Looks the best bet of the night but we will need to take short odds and wait until the last race! The Clinton Thompson trained Petite Olga (box 6) looks the only other early speed greyhound in this heat and should run second tonight. The Darren Taylor trained Paddy Hayze (box 4) will need to overcome this tricky middle draw to qualify into the semis. Can do, if given clear galloping room early. Star Connie (box 7) and Prosecutor (box 8) may fight out the last qualifying spot into the semis.
Selections: 3*-6-4
