Wentworth Park tips and best bets

A wonderful Wednesday awaits us at with three heats of the Chase Maiden Series and three heats of the MDC Masters Series, the finals of which will be run on Saturday week on the same night that one greyhound creates its own little piece of immortality. There are also some nice graded races this week and a quality free-for-all. Good luck with all of your investments – let's hope we can find you a few winners.

Best Bet – Nangar Pearl (Race 1)

This debutante is a 23-month-old daughter of x Little Nangar and is in the very astute Dennis Barnes kennel. Her mum, Little Nangar, won 24 races; six at Wentworth Park. is a littermate to Red Hot Frankie, who has been flying around here of late and is now three from three at Wentworth Park – all of them in sub 30 seconds. There is a report that this girl trialled solo here last week in 29.52, and if that is accurate, she will win this race by plenty. She is drawn to get the gun run and will look to hold them all out and race away with this heat, in which case we could all be cheering two Pearls home to victories on Million Dollar Chase night.

Danger: Untroubled is another first starter from a very adept kennel, and while he may not have the hype of the red dog, he does have a very talented mother who has produced some very smart greyhounds.

Next Best Bet – Fire Legend (Race 7)

's grand old tough-as-iron superstar just keeps getting better with age and has now strung together 11 wins in a row and 14 wins of his last 15 starts. Going to the boxes for the 114th time tonight, this four and a half year old marvel with a tick over $250k in prizemoney just doesn't seem to run a bad race of late. He hasn't been to Wenty since July, but his form hasn't wavered and in his four Wentworth Park masters runs has two thirds and two wins. His record overall here is 21 starts for six wins and seven minor placings. He loves to be drawn down near the fence and has a great record from the two box with eight wins and eight placings from 18 starts. He will lead this field comfortably, but the last 70m might be a nervous watch. Who would have thought with the retirement of the Wenty champ Sunburnt Highway there would be another master to be cheering for so soon?

Best Value Bet – Amigo Rapido (Race 9)

Rapido did almost everything right last Saturday night when he just blew the start a fraction and had to work super hard. He got crossed by the two dog and almost got the lead back approaching the home turn where he copped a bad check. There is no real genuine pace in this race and he can certainly lead this race for a long way. He has no end of early pace and scorched the sand early in his run at two back, but he stopped almost as quickly and got swallowed up by a strong one who got all the breaks. The query is can this boy run out 520m? He has had two runs at Wentworth Park for a third and a fourth both in races where he couldn't quite find the front from awkward middle draws. He quite likes an inside draw and has three placings from three starts in box two and in saying that he should find the front of this race fairly comfortably. If there is any mixing up behind him and he gets any luck, it just might give him a big enough lead to hang and win on tonight. Take a deep breathe on the home turn and cross everything you have, cause he might need some help.
