Wentworth Park racing tips

Another wonderful Wednesday night rolls around in Sydney as hosts an electric 11-race program to delight the greyhound racing enthusiast. We have a nice maiden race and the return of the battler's race. Add to that a couple of really nice free-for-alls — one over the sprint distance, one over the 520m — and it promises to be another night of fast-paced greyhound action. As always, we will endeavour to steer you towards a few nice winners.

BEST BET: Zipping Digby (Race 4)

This is another impeccably well-bred young dog to come from the Hallinan camp and trained by Jason Magri. has only had the three starts to date and is unbeaten so far, so we will see if we can keep the picket fence going tonight. His last two starts were impressive at Dapto and he really ran out a strong 500m, and that might be the winning key. He won his maiden here in October in good style and in decent time for a maiden, so he has been here and won, which is something many of his rivals can't claim. He showed good early pace last start, and while there is some pace in this race, he handled box seven perfectly at Dapto, which can be tricky — especially for young dogs and for big dogs, of which he is both. Box eight should suit and he should be able to come down the middle of the track and hopefully avoid any of the inside brigade. From there, he will explode once they pass the 720m boxes, and with clear running he will make it four on the trot.

Danger: Ace Quality for Darryl Thomas. This boy has done some low flying over the course recently but has had one go here for a . Can show pace and can lead this field but will not want Digby sitting a couple of lengths back behind him. Probably better suited to the bigger tracks, but a definite threat.

NEXT BEST BET: Gozo King (Race 5)

will put the muzzle on this son of and Mossy Girl and he has been racing very well of late. You have to forgive him the fifth in the final of the dogs-only race here last Saturday night, when he missed the kick in a race that had plenty of early pace and he just got cluttered up in a strong field and was never a factor. Before that he was six wins and three placing from his last 10 starts. He has a nice personal best around here of 29.8 seconds which would win this race, and box five is not a horrible draw for a good beginner. That is, however, the crux of the matter. If begins well, he wins. His last couple of runs he has just dwelt a fraction and taken a few strides to get going, and that can be costly from middle draws. However, Gozo will find his best box behaviour tonight in a race where the other pace runners are all outside of him. He will hold them out to the first turn and race away with another well-deserved win here at Headquarters.

Danger: Little Bronte. If the outside division of pace runners get in each other's way, then this little girl might be the one to take full advantage of it. She has powered home from well back here on a couple of occasions for nice placings and was stepped up to 600m with great success, so you know she will be storming over them — especially if she gets a dream run through at the first turn.

BEST VALUE BET: Ritza Blue (Race 6)

In a tough race, looks to be a top value choice. No doubt will start short again, while Zipping Sterling and Our Boy Duke will have admirers, but this boy trained by Joseph Scerri for Frank Gatt can't be forgotten. There is not much pace in this race and there is a fair chance that the inside division may well get in each other's way. Ritza Blue can begin on his night, and his win two starts back from box five shows that. He has only ever had one career start from an outside box for a miss from box seven, but that was over a sprint distance early in his career. While box one would probably give him even more of an advantage, box eight shouldn't hurt provided that he begins as best he can. If this boy can run his usual first section, then he just might stack this field up and give himself a chance to dash away in front. He should give us a great sight at big odds.
