Beverage Wins Lithgow’s 2008 Golden Muzzle
There was an excellent crowd that turned out in miserable conditions for the running of the 2008 Workmens Club Golden Muzzle.
The rain howled across the Lithgow Greyhound track at regular intervals but thankfully held off during the running of their blue ribbon event.
It was a “local” win of some sorts with the Gary Williams‘ Beverage taking out the prizemoney and trophy.
Williams, who now resides in Binda, is a former born and bred Lithgow boy and he had good support from punters with Beverage starting as favourite.
After trailing for the majority of the race beverage turned on the speed down the straight to overhaul Top Drop (a local dog trained by John Brain) to finish one length in front of the rest of the field.
In third place was Eiffella Abby.
Beveridge covered the distance in the time of 29.81 seconds.
At the presentation, Workmens Club president Peter Glendinning did the honours presenting the placegetters with the trophy and cheques.
Before the race, the dogs were paraded past the big crowd by the dancers from La Belle — a tradition that has continued for a number of decades with the girls giving the occasion that extra bit of class.
It was a great day of racing from start to finish and results and more photos from the day’s racing appear on page 21.
The Lithgow Greyhound Association thanked the Lithgow Workmens Club for their continued support and wished everyone present all the best for Christmas and the New Year.
