Bookies Day At Dubbo

Bookmakers finished well on top of punters at Dawson Park in on Sunday, a 10-race meeting which featured two heats of the Bookmakers Winter Sprint over 400 metres. Parkes sprinter Miss Skaife ($6.00) caused a major upset when she led all the way from the eight box in a very strong 4th and 5th grade Pacific Flow Technology Stakes (516m) to score in 30.68s.

Also in the field were last start winners , Sweeny and Intrepid Jet as well as handy performers Blue Collision and .

Trainer Rob Harrison was delighted with the win.

“Yeah, I was a bit surprised by the way she came out but once she got to the lead I was quietly confident she could hold them out,” he said.

“Miss Skaife is as strong as a bull and I am hopeful she will get at least 600 metres at a later stage.

“The class of dog racing here over this distance at the moment is very strong so I am rapt with how Miss Skaife went today.”

Great to see the likes of the Harrison's sharing in the spoils of victory as they are solid supporters of the Dubbo club who make the two-hour round trip from Parkes on most weekends.

visitor Wes McDonald finished the day with a double.

($2.50) upset favourite backers when he proved too good for the heavily backed Lethal Grin ($1.70) to score in a smart 23.26s in Plaster Works Stakes.

Then in the Bookmakers Winter Sprint, heat 1, Dana Hugo ($2.20) out-pointed kennel mate Dana Tiger ($2.40) leading all the way in the identical time of 23.26s.

Another local greyhound Fresh Fantasy ($2.20) was most impressive in taking out the All Codes Racing Services 5th Grade Stakes (516m) in a smart 30.45s.

The trained sprinter tracked hot favourite ($1.60) for the majority of the journey before finishing much too strongly in the run to the line.

Louise Abbott was all smiles when the $1.70 favourite Zini's Miss led all the way in the Ausure Finance and Insurance Stakes Maiden to score in 23.54s by 5-3/4 lengths.

The Charmaine Roberts trained Freeman Keeping ($1.40 fav) registered win number 21 from 49 starts with an easy all the way victory in the Drivers Stakes with a good time of 18.32s, defeating litter sister Venus Keeping ($3.50) and Boys In Boots ($2.50).

Trainers are asked to please note, the Dubbo Greyhound Racing Club tries to accommodate the top grade dogs over all distances where possible, as patrons do like to see the top flight dogs go through their paces.

Other winners on the day were Amity Street 18.80s (trained by Boppa Pickering); Tammy Moon 18.32s (Jan Steel) and Spudnick 18.70s (Barry Coyte) and Lamington 23.33s ().

Dubbo races next Sunday afternoon with free admission on offer to all patrons with the first race starting at 1.15pm.
