Short But Sweet For SA Coursing Season Finale At Virginia

The finale was a short sweet one with only 5 events being contested. The weather was kind, cool but no rain and the winners were well spread amongst trainers.

Oregon Bale won for the combination of /, Long Gully Jack provided Darrell Hearnden with a good win, Emerley Drifter returned to the winner's circle for Graeme Stirling, finished off the season with a win for , and the Peter Hurley trained newcomer, Midnight Kist started of his racing career with a win.

The season has seen 224 greyhounds raise at least one flag supported by 62 trainers who also raised at least one flag. Shaun Matcott enjoyed his season and has taken out the Leading Trainer award.

The trained Weowna Cha Cha rewarded him with her consistent efforts throughout the season and has won Greyhound of the Year. Both presentations will be made at Angle Park on 18 November in conjunction with the Feature Race programmed for the best 8 greyhounds who have coursed during this season.

Statistics kept by Vaun Gray have shown that over 70% of greyhounds who coursed during the season went on to either win or place at their next start on the circle. Just goes to show that everybody benefits from participating in the – just ask your dog!

RACE 3 : KENNARD'S HIRE NOVICE STAKE
Michelle Stirling's EMERLEY DRIFTER (BK B, Sep '07; Big Daddy Cool/Eudunda Eudunda) defeated Shaun Laffin's EXPLOSIVE DEVICE (BE D, Sep '08; Where's Pedro/Explosive Memory) by 1 length in 15.30. Winner trained by Graeme Stirling.

RACE 4 : ADELAIDE PLAINS BERINARY SURGERY OPEN STAKE
Shaun Laffin's SPARROW BAZ (BEBD D, Mar '07; /Bazwill) had a bye in 15.20 when Ken Myers' REXERAY (BK D, Feb '07; Bond/Lovely Prima) was withdrawn through injury. Winner trained by Shaun Laffin.


The Hurley Mob's MIDNIGHT KIST (BKW D, Jan '09; /Ivory Kist) defeated 's BIG ON CHEESIE (BK D, Jan '09; Superman/Sound of Sleet) by 3 lengths in 15.30. Winner trained by Peter Hurley.
