Short But Sweet For SA Coursing Season Finale At Virginia

The finale was a short sweet one with only 5 events being contested. The weather was kind, cool but no rain and the winners were well spread amongst trainers.

Oregon Bale won for the combination of Paul Wheeler/Shaun Matcott, Long Gully Jack provided Darrell Hearnden with a good win, Emerley Drifter returned to the winner’s circle for Graeme Stirling, Sparrow Baz finished off the season with a win for Shaun Laffin, and the Peter Hurley trained newcomer, Midnight Kist started of his racing career with a win.

The season has seen 224 greyhounds raise at least one flag supported by 62 trainers who also raised at least one flag. Shaun Matcott enjoyed his season and has taken out the Leading Trainer award.

The Justin Penn trained Weowna Cha Cha rewarded him with her consistent efforts throughout the season and has won Greyhound of the Year. Both presentations will be made at Angle Park on 18 November in conjunction with the Feature Race programmed for the best 8 greyhounds who have coursed during this season.

Statistics kept by Vaun Gray have shown that over 70% of greyhounds who coursed during the season went on to either win or place at their next start on the circle. Just goes to show that everybody benefits from participating in the coursing – just ask your dog!

The Club would like to take this opportunity of thanking all owners/trainers for supporting us during the 2010 season, to all our volunteers and helpers for their untiring efforts to “make it work” and of course, to the greyhounds for their speed.
