Cumbria Miss wins at Nowra again
Cumbria Miss leads home the field at Nowra on Monday.

As her brother prepares for a shot at a million-dollar jackpot, Cumbria Miss bounced back into the winner’s circle, saluting at Nowra on Monday night.

Trained by Stephen Fitch, the locally trained chaser lined up in a 520m fifth grade heat as the race favourite, paying $3.20 with Unibet Australia.

Out of box two, she got out to sit fourth soon after box rise with Glide On Bye ($4.80) shooting to the front as the field turned the first corner.

Approaching the final bend, Cumbria Miss rallied through on the inside to strike the lead into the home straight, before running on to win.

She beat home Uncle Doug ($4.60) by one length in 30.05, with Red And Gold ($16) finishing in third.

The win in her 69th career start, was her third at the track and trip from 12 starts, with six minor placings.

Her last win at the journey was on June 12, when beating home Rockstar Aloha by three-quarters-of-a-length in a fifth grade series final.

Cumbria Miss last saluted, at the shorter Nowra 365m on September 4, when beating home Shades Of Rose by one length in a fifth grade series heat.

From a 2020 litter of 10 out of Hill Top Belle by Fernando Bale, she has 13 wins and 29 placings from 69 career starts and has banked $50,315 in prize money for connections.

Remarkably, nine out of the 10 in the litter have won races, highlighted by Cumbria Kid who has 17 wins and 23 placings from 68 career starts and has banked $75,165 in earnings. The sole dog from the litter yet to win a race is No Fun Mum.

Cumbria Kid will jump from box one in the Million Dollar Chase Final on Friday night at Wentworth Park and is a $31 prospect for the $1,000,000-to-the-winner feature.
