Dashing Success

Being the first greyhound to win both the (2009) and (2011) finals – Dashing Corsair would always be given his chance at stud. Racing as the iron dog the fawn chaser would chase the mechanical lure on 124 occasion's for a remarkable 57 wins, 16 seconds and 14 thirds. The 2010 Queensland Greyhound of the Year was trained by Dwyer Lennon and at the time of his retirement had won more races at Albion Park than any other greyhound, 33 wins in total eclipsing the long standing record of .

Harry, as he is affectionately known away from the race book was a brilliant sprinter turned stayer, remember for being a multiple group winner and finalist (18 group finals). His best race wins were of course the , The 2009 Sprint Final in Perth, the 2011 Group 1 National Distance Final in Brisbane. He would also win The Group 3 Big Dog Cup and the Super Stayers invitational. He finished his grand career ranked 14th overall on the all-time prizemoney list with earnings at $455,000.

It's a wonderful feeling for all involved with this remarkable greyhound that his prodigy and offspring are now starting to make their presence felt on racetracks throughout Australia. Tonight, the best performed of his offspring faces his acid test in the Group 3 at Park.

It is the first group finalist for Dashing Corsair and fittingly it lies with his best son to date Dashing Man (ex Razolin Bond). The January 2011 whelp races in the Victorian kennel of Lara mentor Brooke Ennis. Like his father he started his career over the sprint trips but since stepping up to the middle distance range he has excelled. A fall earlier in the year seems to have been the making of him. Where others falter he has come of age, registering fast successive best of meeting wins at The Meadows, Sandown and .

Tonight, in a race worth $25,000 to the winner and carrying Group 3 status he looks to give Dashing Corsair his first group winning offspring, despite the awkward box 4 draw. Manu as he is known around the kennels races with the same courage and determination as his father. On the track he is fast approaching $50,000 in prizemoney, from 27 starts he has recorded 8 wins and 13 placing's. Bred by Tammy and Jason Stuhmcke, the litter of pups have gone on to such great success that when Razolin Bond came on season again they had no hesitation in a repeat mating.

Tammy and Jason run West Morton Pet Foods in – they fell in love with Harry as a race dog and now with his pups. For the Stuhmcke's and their limited involvement in the sport it will be their biggest thrill to date. Whatever happens, their affection and love of Harry will remain.

The biggest challenge to Dashing Man will be recent track record breaker Bookkeeper who has drawn the pink rug. Bookkeeper's latest track record at the Meadows was brilliant and he looks to be racing in career best form and will start a deserved favourite. It's a tough race but if Manu can salute it could be the spark of greater things to come for Harry at stud. With just 30 litters of so on the ground, it is remarkable that from limited opportunity he could have his first group runner and winner. Being based in Queensland he probably doesn't get the opportunities that greyhounds in NSW and Victoria are accustomed too. He was a superstar on the track, and deserves his chance at stud.

The Sir John Dillon Memorial could be the start of a big weekend for Harry's offspring as litter mates Fawn Corsair and Smart Clique (by Blonde State) do battle in the corporate dollars final at Ipswich on Saturday night. While the Ipswich cup heats might take centre stage, supporters of Dashing Corsair will be eyes on race six as these two smart litter mates face off in the $6000 to the winner final. Drawn in boxes 4 and 7 they look improving types and if they race with any of the courage and determination of their father will be greyhounds to follow.
