Doubles All Around At Canberra Greyhounds
It was a big night at Canberra last Sunday as a strong crowd turned out for the 13 race card, and witnessed some sensational racing.
The night one of doubles as Lesley Hannaford, Ken Staines, Noel Batinich and Lorraine Roy all claimed winning doubles.
Noel Batinich starting proceedings with Bomba Banquet claiming the small field best 8 race, before Jacobâs Banquet made it a running double, for the Young owner, with Gil Apps preparing the greyhound which paid a pretty $31 with trackside TAB.
Lesley Hannaford was the next trainer to open her account when Carley Cougar was able to jump to the lead and go the distance in 30.91 ahead of Tinashe Bale and Galba Barry.
Her second winner not coming until race 6 where Millieâs Me Mum, having also drawn the red box, was able to get to race leader Pale Face Ariek a stride before the line in best of the night 30.89.
Jerrawa trainer Ken Stainesâ Maidens both breaking through, Heist Society taking out heat two of the Rod Everett Memorial, before first starter Vidar Izmir claimed the eleventh event ahead of Terryâs Elite and Allyson Bale.
Lorraine Royâs greyhounds the last to secure the double, Clancyâs Flow taking out the 4th and 5th grade 440 event, which kennelmate Itâs A Chance was heavily favoured to claim.
Wannabe First finally firing over the 530, taking out the eighth ahead of Shanghai Legend and Bowen Bale, who made it three minor placings for Margaret Bannerman for the night.
Walkabout Jill for Jason Cameron goes into next weekâs Rod Everett Memorial final as the fastest qualifier, clocking 18.12 in heat one, a sensational run from lids to line ahead of Wayne Whiteâs Rain Gage, Big Ask Jade rounding out the placings.
First starter Roll On By also booking its place after winning heat three ahead of Dave Thompsonâs Almost Done, while Bruce Peckâs Spanish Rose qualified taking out heat four ahead of Malbon Street for Alan Tutt and the Ping Cut and Motor Syndicate.
In the most sizzling run of the night Miami Lock pinged the lids and recorded a 7.62 first section, before pulling away to take out the Canberra Mower Services Sprint by six lengths a very pleasing result for Canberra Trainer Richard Peil.
It was worth the wait to the last event for Terry and Thelma OâKeefe who took out the final event with Amberâs Osti, paying $3.70 with the TAB, double what was available in the betting ring.
