Ethanol Water outclasses rivals to win Group 1 Gold Cup
Ethanol Water produced a brilliant front-running display to claim the Group 1 Gold Cup (710m) at Albion Park on Thursday night, securing her second elite-level victory in dominant fashion.
The Thomas Dailly-trained stayer jumped superbly from box three and took control of the race immediately, setting up a commanding early lead as the $2.30 betting favourite with the top greyhound bookmakers.
Black Silencer ($3.50) loomed as a late threat down the back straight, but Ethanol Water never faltered, powering home to win by 1.25 lengths in 41.46 seconds.
The victory adds another Group 1 trophy to Ethanol Water’s growing resume, following a strong lead-up campaign that included an unlucky run in the Golden Sands Final earlier in the month.

Greg Brennan for the Dailly kennel credited her early speed and race fitness as the difference on the night.
“I think being here early in the month for those 600s helped her. First look here, 600. Very unlucky in that Golden Sands final—forget that run. Went home, prepared well, and then last week, first look at 700—great. Tonight, just as good,” Greg Brennan said.
“Found the lead. Early speed and strength—what a dynamic combination over the same trip. She’s the all-around package, isn’t she?”
The Daillys have developed a proven formula for elite stayers, and this latest success further underlines their dominance in Australia’s distance racing ranks.
“That’s the key against this class of greyhound—unless you’re extremely strong, you’ve gotta find the front. The Daillys throw a very strong line, and this has been a successful move over the last few years now, bringing them up,” he added.
“I’ve known them for a long time. We’re good mates, and they trust me to do the job. I follow their instructions to the letter, and it’s worked tonight.”
With 23 wins from 60 career starts, Ethanol Water continues to establish herself as a top-tier stayer, with career earnings now exceeding $250,000.
Black Silencer chased bravely for second, while Late Night News ($5.00) ran on well for third.
