Fine Only For Diclofenac Positive Swab In Victoria

Victorian GRV have just released details of a held last week where a Victorian greyhound trainer was found guilty of presenting a greyhound to race under the influence of the drug .

Diclofenac in a non steroidal anti-inflammatory () most commonly present in the human arthiritis preparation, Voltaren.

Stewards on the 20th March 2009 conducted an into the post-race urine sample taken from the greyhound “” at the GRC meetingon 6 January, 2009 indicating the presence of the prohibited substance Diclofenac.

On the day in question, Kay Ess Penny was a 6 length winner leading all the way from box 8 in 24.00, starting a firm $3.20 favourite.

Stewards heard evidence from Mr. L. Bottom (Trainer), Mr. A. Mills (Deputy Chief ), Dr. J. Vine (RASL), Dr. A. Smith (Veterinary ) and one other licensed person.

After hearing the evidence, Stewards charged Mr. with breach of GAR 83(2)(3) in that he presented “Kay Ess Penny” for racing at the Warragul GRC on 6 January, 2009 with the presence of the prohibited substance Diclofenac.

Mr. Luke Bottom pleaded guilty to the charge.

Stewards found Mr. Luke Bottom guilty as charged and fined him the sum of $1,000.

Stewards also disqualified “Kay Ess Penny” from first placing in Event 6 – Uncle Bob’s – at the Warragul Greyhound Racing Club meeting on 6 January, 2009 pursuant to GAR83(4) and amended the placings.
