Fred Rose demonstrated his signature tenacity to claim victory in the Green Ticks Final at The Meadows, finishing the 600m event in 34.69 seconds.

Known for his relentless style, the four-year-old greyhound stormed home from a challenging position to secure the $10,000 first prize, narrowly defeating Paw Ucolta and Gary Stun On in a thrilling finish.

Breaking only fairly from the inside draw, Fred Rose found himself mid-pack early as Gary Stun On set the pace with a sharp first sectional of 9.02 seconds.

As the race unfolded, Fred Rose began weaving his way through the field, showcasing his powerful finishing burst in the final stages.

With his signature determination, he surged past Paw Ucolta and Gary Stun On in the closing strides to secure victory by half a length as the $2.70 favourite with the top greyhound bookmakers.

Trainer Jeffrey Chignell’s post-race reaction encapsulated the unpredictable nature of Fred Rose’s racing style.

When asked when he thought Fred could win, Chignell candidly replied,

“None. The line. He’s, mate, it’s the line. So Fred.”

Fred Rose’s owner, Sharon Lee Chignell, shared insights into the greyhound’s unique personality.

“Oh, he’s a bad naughty boy. He’s very noisy and demanding. He’s getting a bit old, and he hasn’t changed anyway. He’s four years old on New Year’s Eve next week, so we’ll just see how he keeps going.”

The win marked Fred Rose’s 29th career victory from 106 starts, pushing his career earnings to an impressive $230,931.

While his racing style often leaves connections and fans on edge, Fred’s ability to finish strongly has made him a crowd favourite and a consistent performer in high-stakes races.

Paw Ucolta, trained by Samantha Grenfell, finished a close second, while Gary Stun On, trained by Cole Brett, rounded out the top three.
