Gawler’s Feature Event The Bunyip Gawler Gold Cup

The Bunyip is the premier racing event for the Greyhound Racing Club and will draw a crowd at the Gawler Show grounds, Nixon Terrace this Sunday 15th of November.

The event has grown considerably over the last few years and the Club is expecting close to 1000 people through the gates this year.

The Rotary Club of Gawler are the main beneficiary, as entry is simply a gold coin donation (notes will be accepted), which is all donated to the Rotary Club, so the community benefits.

The event has 10 races on the program, and has lots of free entertainment. There will be a live band, Father Xmas, raffles, dancing demonstration, free rides and face painting for the kids, and of course the Greyhound Hunnies, who will giving away lots of free Hunnie Gifts.

The Gawler Greyhound Racing Club has full TAB facilities and bookmakers on course and there will be plenty of catering and the venue is fully licensed.

Racing commences at 5:34pm, but gates open from 4pm. The feature race is The Bunyip Gawler Gold Cup, which will be race 7 at 7.24 pm and is set to be a highlight for the calendar as the field promises to feature some of the best Greyhounds in this state.

Last year, was the winner of the Cup for and owners Tony and Jan Jones. While who can forget the great Miss Spicy in 2005. After winning the Gawler Gold Cup, she went on to win both the and the at in Melbourne.

The field will be known at approximately 3:30pm on Tuesday 10th when the box draw will be conducted on course by Tony Piccolo, the Member for Light and Brian Sambell, the Mayor for the Gawler Town Council, directly following the 6 heats for this final.

Only the best 6 greyhounds and the fastest two seconds, will go through to the final.
