Graham Berry Inquiry Concludes With More Disqualifications
ARG Opinion: This ongoing case has been one of the biggest inquiries in Australian Greyhound Racing. RWWA have made it clear that they won't tolerate clear disdain for the rules. An example has been made of Graham Berry that should be noted Australia wide. He was disqualified for a serious charge and proceeded to ignore that disqualification, resulting in very hefty penalties.
We have provided a link below to each steward report for the different cases within the inquiry.
Greyhounds – Stewards' Inquiry – Conclusion of inquiries arising from a report of Greyhounds found at the property of a disqualified person.
RWWA Stewards have today completed all outstanding inquiries surrounding the discovery of 61 greyhounds by RWWA Principal Investigator Mr P O'Reilly and the Stewards on 9 April 2014 at a property in Nambeelup Park and the persons associated with them and their actions and associations with disqualified person Mr Graham Berry, who was found at the property at that time.
In this respect the following inquiries have now been concluded with the penalties as indicated applied.
• Owner/Trainer Mr Michael Gordon pleaded guilty in a written submission to a charge under GAR86(ah) with the particulars being he did associate with disqualified person Mr Graham Berry for the purposes of greyhound racing by attending Mr Berry's premises prior to 9 April 2014 and assisting Mr Berry to worm greyhound puppies that were located at the premises in question.
Disqualified for nine (9) months.
• Owner/Trainer Mr. Jason Marley pleaded guilty in a written submission to a charge under GAR86 (ah) with the particulars being he did associate with disqualified person Mr Graham Berry for the purposes of greyhound racing by contacting Mr Berry and organising for Stanga Jill, a greyhound he owned, to be moved to the premises in question as discovered by RWWA Officials on 9th April 2014.
Disqualified for three (3) months.
• Owner/trainer Devin White was found guilty at a Stewards inquiry to a charge under GAR86(ah) with the particulars being he did associate with disqualified person Mr Graham Berry for the purposes of greyhound racing by having a litter of seven Magic Sprite x Uno Shazza greyhounds, which he was the licensed breeder of, at the premises in question as discovered by RWWA Officials on 9th April 2014.
Disqualified for three (3) months.
In considering the appropriate penalty in each case, Stewards took into account, amongst other things:
• Each person's personal circumstances, level of involvement in the matters arising and seriousness of their respective offences.
• The seriousness of the offence and the consequences it has had for the Greyhound Industry.
• The need for deterrence both general and specific
The conclusion of these inquires now completes all inquiries arising from the initial investigation, which has seen penalties issued for various rule breaches as previously reported to the following individuals:-
