Greyhound Racing Victoria Reduces Weekly Race Meetings

Greyhound (GRV) today announced a reduction in their 2024 racing schedule.

Starting January 1, 2024, they will be removing the Saturday morning race meetings from their calendar.

This decision was made after considering factors such as the current economic climate, greyhound population, breeding numbers and the need to maintain stake money levels.

As a result of this change the total number of weekly greyhound race meetings will be reduced to 24.

Additionally, they have decided to classify the roving Saturday twilight race meetings as Level 3 races (excluding feature events).

These modifications aim to ensure a level of racing on weekends and are expected to lead to larger fields and more opportunities for and subsequent income.

Overall, these adjustments were made following a review of the racing program's performance and industry factors.

By implementing these changes, GRV hopes to create a sustainable thriving environment in the face of shrinking breeding numbers nationally.

Furthermore apart from reducing the number of meetings GRV is also actively investigating ways to enhance betting options and optimize the racing schedule for the 2024/2025 racing calendar.
