GRNSW Address Maitland Track Concerns

have this morning acknowledged what many in the Hunter Valley have known for some time, the track redesign was flawed.

Since the launch of the new loam track, industry participants have complained about high levels of interference on the entry point to the corner off the back straight. That interference has seen many falls and injuries.

This morning however, GRNSW have acknowledged the short comings and have approved $59,000 in funding for the installation of a transition turn at the Maitland greyhound racing track.

The board of GRNSW said that “interference at the first turn has been a concern at Maitland since its conversion to loam and the proposed works should go a long way to reducing that interference and improving the quality of racing at the venue”.

“The upgrade of the Maitland track with a transition turn, which has been proven at many race tracks, will make racing at the venue safer for greyhounds and more consistent for punters,” said GRNSW Chief Executive .

As a result of the planned track upgrade, the Maitland race meetings scheduled for June 17th, June 24th and July 1st have been transferred to .

Although after a spate of recent hock fractures at The Gardens, the transfer of those meetings may not be welcomed by Hunter Valley greyhounds trainers.
