It’s A Roo ready for Rockhampton Cup rumble

Queensland greyhound racing - Rockhampton Cup news

Tony Zammit is confident that It's A Roo can win the $75,000 to the winner 3 Cup.

He has drawn the five box for the final on Friday night amongst a field that is packed with some of the best talent on four legs.

“He goes straight when he leaves the boxes no matter where he's drawn,” Zammit said.

“He doesn't go hard left or hard right. So, box 5 isn't really going to be a worry for him.

“Particularly with his kennel mate () as he is drawn on his outside and he tends to want to use a bit of the track early.

“So they shouldn't really bother each other.”

It's A Roo won his heat by 2.75 lengths on his first look at the track earning his spot in the final on Friday night.

Adulate ran second in his heat behind winner Shipwreck, trained by Ned Snow.

“I'm hoping that if he goes straight Adulate's main problem will be Locked on Scotch on his outside.

“When Locked On Scotch won he won off the one box and he tends to go to the rail,” Zammit said.

Trainer John Catton said that Locked on Scotch would have preferred a better draw but it would all come down to a clean run.

“The box isn't ideal but he musters quick and if he can go with the leader early which I think will be the two dog and can be within a few lengths he should be able to run it down.

“We need a clean run into the first corner and to run the strongest time home because he has a good strong finish.”

Zammit said that although his two chasers were newcomers to the track the plan was to make their presence felt in the final.

“I'm hoping that Adulate begins well as that was her first look at the track last week, they didn't get a chance to trial there,” he said.

“So I'm just hoping that with the second look at the track they'll benefit by that first look and maybe come out a little bit better.

“If they can it will put them both right in the race because Adulate didn't run a bad race behind Shipwreck.

“Shipwreck won his race and he actually beat Shipwreck out but he was caught out wide by the two. Shipwreck was able to from the one box and maintain that good run through on the rail.

“If Shipwreck is in front at the first corner than he's going to be the one to beat because he's pretty strong dog.”

Ned Snow said that both Shipwreck (3) and Come on Aussie (1) were ready to go and that the inside draw was great given the performances from there.

Zammit understands the task ahead but has been around the sport long enough to understand also that on any day his dogs are ready to perform and turn the tables on the competition.

“The only chance really here is if you break well with a decent kick and get away early because there are a lot of good dogs running together here.

“This time they've both got good chances.”
