Local WA Oaks Victory For Rock Pool
Local WA youngster Rock Pool ($4.20) proved too good in the final of the Group 2 Schweppes WA Oaks at Cannington on Saturday night.
I'm Hot Property ($5.80) began well from out wide and led passed the post the first time from Rock Pool and Odessa Shiraz ($2.90) who both also jumped quickly.
Rock Pool and I'm Hot Property raced each other down the back straight where Rock Pool worked to a narrow lead.
I'm Hot Property finished well but the leader found something in the run to the line, going on to win well. Odessa Shiraz finished nicely grabbing third.
Margins were a length by a length and a quarter with the race time 30.49 a few lengths outside the race record of 30.22 set last year by Topline Doovee.
Rock Pool is by Where's Pedro out of Will You Behave who was owned by Damon Fardig who bred and owns Rock Pool. Will You Behave held the 642m track record at Cannington until recently and was trained in WA by Brad Keel who previously trained for Fardig.
All of the litter have been in outstanding form including her litter sister Black Velveteen who finish unplaced in the final. There is a second unraced litter to an imported sire and most of the pups were syndicated for around $100K last year on Greyhound Gossip. There stocks have risen after the Oaks win.
After the placed runners the field finished in the following order 4th Supreme Shiraz ($25.00), 5th Supreme Vision ($16.10), 6th Cara Bale ($3.70), 7th Black Velveteen ($53.40) and Ever Grace ($25.80).
Rock Pool is raced by Damon Fardig, and is trained by Ben Abercrombie of Banjup. She is a Black bitch whelped June 2008 by Where's Pedro from Will You Behave (Token Prince x Oh Behave). Rock Pool has won seven of her 11 starts and has been placed on one occasions with the $35,000 first prize for the Oaks it took her current stake earnings to $48,105.
The WA Oaks was first conducted as a feature in 1976 when won by Venus Ice it started as a Group 3 race and was elevated to Group 2 status in 2003 when a substantial increase to prizemoney affected the change. Listed below is the full honour roll.
