Mepunga Nicky Named Australia’s Best Greyhound For The Month Of September 2011
AGRAâs Greyhound of the Month for September is brilliant Victorian youngster Mepunga Nicky.
In September she won all of her four starts which included both the heats and finals of the South Australian Oak and the Warragul Oaks in country Victoria.
In an outstanding performance at Angle Park on September 15th she beat boom West Australian sprint sensation Miata to win the Oaks final in 29.64.
This followed an impressive heat win the week before in 29.77 over Itâs A Blur.
Returning to Victoria with her sights set on the Warragul Oaks she again gave two outstanding displays of sprinting, coming from behind on both occasions to land the prize.
Mepunga Nicky has shown above average ability since she started racing at Sandown in February with a win and a second at her first two starts. She has now won eight city starts from her over all 11 wins and four placings in an 18 start career.
Besides her Group 3 SA Oaks win she was also a finalist in the Group 1 Maturity at the Meadows in July. She had no luck at all on that occasion finishing un-placed behind Shereen Bale.
In September we had seven group races decided. Mepunga Nicky beat Group 2 winner Penthouse. Plus Group 3 winners Shimaguni, Yowyeh, Gundabooka, Prince Diablo and Cawbourne Smash for the monthly award.
