Miagi Quickest Heat Winner, Deans Qualify Three
Saturday August 16 at Wentworth Park saw top shelf greyhound racing. The contest for places in the NSW Finals on Saturday August 23 was keen, racing was clean and the form stood up.
Miagi is a wonder and despite the most limited preparation Warren and Jill Harper were all smiles after the people’s favourite stayer recorded the fastest distance heat win of 42.65 in the third distance heat. Warren like all at the track were in awe when Miagi came from near last early to win effortlessly. “If he were sound he would be unbeatable were Warren’s words.”
The Harpers had ealier qualified Miagi’s half sister for the final when Calhoun Park won a heat in 42.66. The first distance heat went to Risk It which competed as a NSW eligible entry in the series but now trained in SA by Troy Murray for Eliza Stiff.
The highlight of the sprint heats was Richard Dean‘s qualifying three for the final: Hendrix ran second to Snozz, Repeated was an impressive all the way winner in 30.11 (fastest heat) and Thai Alert after working to the lead past the post the first time was a most impressive winner in 30.19.
Snozz trained by Jason Mackay won the first heat in 30.20 and Mountain of Love won heat 2 in 30.44. Before the race Ruth and Matthew Matic were confident Mountain of Love would improve on whatever he did in the heats and were delighted with the win and box 1 they drew in the final.
