Miss Lyndan’s Last Stride Westlawn Sprint Final Win

A fast finishing burst by gave her a last stride victory in the Westlawn Sprint final at last Friday. Fastest qualifier Rapid Puzzle went into the back straight with a big break after some early scrimmaging, and looked all over a winner at the top turn.

Four semi finals of the Pop Northfield maiden series were run, with the fastest time going to Mr. Mulgowie who led from the back section to run 23.17 for Trevor Salmoni and . Next best time was clocked by Zip Zip Marina who ran 23.24. She led throughout to win by four lengths from Silver Rhonda who will contest her second final after being off the scene for most of the year with injury.

's Rumble Seeker was the next best qualifier with a run of 23.39. Steve won the race last year with the now well performed Mystic Rumble. The remaining semi went to Mr Prizz in 23.50. He had box one, and showed good pace when he got clear down the back. He will be hard to beat if ideally drawn out wide in the final.

was the leading trainer on the day with a double. Litter mates Bellbird Park and Grand Canyon did the job for him, and both came from box five. Bellbird Park began well, and by the first bend had taken the lead. Although the runner up Pacific Maestro tried hard, he was no match for the winner who ran 27.35. Grand Canyon also showed early speed, and took over as they went into the back. He held off the fast finishing Maxie's Chariot to score by a head in a fast 22.88, the best time of the day.

Lucky Rose Hi also broke the “magical” 23 second barrier in taking out the Evans Heads Cellarbrations stake. Well placed in the eight box, he also led from the first turn and went on to win by 1 1/2 lengths from the favourite Happy Hopper. Trevor Thompson trains her, and he is another trainer who is having a good run at Casino.

The well performed Club Sportz added to impressive record when he raced away with South Casino Newsagency stake. He came out running and won by 5 1/2 lengths in 27.38. Trained by , he has now won eight of his sixteen starts. His popularity with his team of owners and New South Wales punters was shown when he paid 5/4 here, compared to 2/1 and better interstate.

Day Seas Penny finally broke through in the Evans Head Bowling Club distance stake when she won by a neck in 36.36 for , whilst Pretty Ben gave Don Kevill a welcome change of luck when he won the Euchre Club maiden by 1 1/4 lengths in 23.56.

Casino will race again next Friday afternoon with the Rapidvite Pop Northfield maiden final highlighting the card.
