Molly Campbell Silver Dollars Heats Fire Up
The contest for this year’s Molly Campbell Memorial Silver Dollars is firing with the heats to take place this Thursday night at Albion Park.
The six heats feature some of Brisbane’s top performing young greyhounds all vying for a shot at the $5000 winner’s cheque.
The Molly Campbell Memorial originated from renowned young greyhound enthusiast and Queensland Greyhound Form Guide pioneer, Molly Campbell, who started the Molly Campbell Silver Collar in 1974 at Capalaba.
The Collar was later relocated to Albion Park in 1997 and renamed the Molly Campbell Silver Dollars. Sadly, Molly Campbell passed away in 1998 but the race continues on in her legacy.
This year’s event will be as strong as ever, with an array of lightning fast greyhounds, including proven performer Matching Outcome in heat three (race six).
The Paul Felgate-trained greyhound will be looking to return back to its winning form seen three starts ago, having recorded a blistering 30.21 over 520m at Albion Park on October 14. He has not shown early pace at his last two starts and will need to improve on Monday night’s performance if he is to beat the in-form Flint.
Heat four (race seven) and heat five (race eight) will be a war of times with Peter Dunne’s Smart Blonde and Robert Giltinan’s Brandy Snap both looking for a position in the final.
Smart Blonde continues to show incredible form, winning 10 of her 17 starts to date. It will be her toughest test in her short career in a race with a lot of depth including challengers; Quays On Logan, Rattle and Hum, Bond’s Away and Track Hammer.
In heat five, Brandy Snap, who will start from box four, has run very quick times recently and looks to be the one to beat after clocking in an impressive 30.30 over 520m at Albion Park last start.
Heat six (race nine) is looking to be a competitive race, with regular Thursday night 520m greyhound Nikita Beriman, shaping up against the Ron Ball-trained Berella Rhianna, who jumps from a favourable box two. Other chances in this open race are Three Copies and Inflammable.
The race card would not be complete without the regular 710m thriller (race five), with Smart Choice expected to start favourite after racing home in 42.19 to claim victory last Thursday night.
After two unlucky runs, Smart Choice made a return to winning form, and will race off against rivals One Missing, Spontaneous and Irish Fantasy.
The Best Eight of the night will be race three, the Brandons Electrical 520m.
Bob Wright-trained dog Becton will be one to watch in this race, dropping back from 600m. Becton boasts a record of 10 wins, and two seconds over the 520m at Albion Park, his best an extremely quick 30.03 in May this year.
However, stiff competition will come from directly outside with box seven featuring Intrepid Force and consistent performer Mobile Phantom wearing the pink.
Albion Park’s only other race of the night will be the opening event, the Amanda Flash Stand fourth grade 520m (race one).
After success over 600m, Reg Hazelgrove has decided to drop Black Ruler him back to 520m.
Stone Cold Sober is another one to watch in this race, having bad luck in its previous few starts despite punter’s confidence.
